Every egre gious piece of destructive environmental legislation has been chronicled by the National Resource Defense Council and can be found online at NRDC.org. The NRDC is a highly effec tive environmental action organization that uses law-- and science to protect the planet’s wildlife and wild places, and to ensure a safe and healthy environ ment for all living things. At NRDC.org, scientists and environmental advo cates continue to track what the Bush administra tion has done and is doing on enviroiunental matters. Environmental advocates and scientists worldwide encourage voters to inves tigate the damage the Bush administration has caused to our country and to the plan et. Enviroimientalists are immensely pleased to have a candidate such as John Kerry on the Presidential ticket. Kerry has one of the greenest voting records in the United States Senate. In addition to his green record, he shares the ticket with North Carolina Senator John Edwards. Edwards brings a second green record to the ticket, and has introduced several pieces of pro-envi- ronmental legislation dur ing his short term in office. The Bush administtation has consistently chosen not to protect the public health. Instead of promoting the use of clean vehicles, renewable energy sources, and energy efficiency, the Bush admin istration has developed pol icies that polluters applaud. The pesticide industry, the oil and gas industry, the coal industry, the electric utili ties, and the nuclear indus try have seen an outetand- ing return on their lobbying investment. Polluters sup port George W. Bush be cause they no longer have to clem up their collective toxic messes. Bush and pol luters agree: The American taxpayers should shoulder the financial burden of cleaning up the toxic sites that poison them. The coal industry and the electric utilities are well financed and well connected to the Bush administration. Dur ing the 2000 elections, En ron was George W. Bush’s largest campaign donor. Together, they are working to convince the Americai public that “Clean Coal” is an entity that actually ex ists. Their television cam paign parallels the premise behind the Bush pollution plan known as the “Clear Skies” Initiative. Environ mental advocates have tak en to calling the Bush plan “Clear Lies”, and the Sierra Club has referred to the plan as the Bush “Smokescreen”. The Sierra Club has en dorsed Senator John Kerry. They believe Kerry has stood up to polluters and has been a champion of protecting hmnan health and the environment dur ing his entire career in public office. As Lieuten ant Governor of Massa chusetts, Kerry chaired an Acid Rain Task Force and issued a “Call for Action” on the topic of air pollution. As a Senator he has cham pioned the cause of conser vation, been a leader in the fight against polluters and blocked the Bush Admin istration’s efforts to reverse 30 years of environmental progress. From clean air to clean water to toxics to public lands to energy, environmental advocates count on John Kerry to pro vide leadership, vision, and solutions so that all Ameri cans can have a clean, safe, healthy environment. The League of Conserva tion Voters has also thrown their support behind John Kerry. The LCV cites his outstanding 35-year en vironmental record, from helping to organize the first Earth Day in 1970, to earn ing the best environmental voting record (92 percent lifetime LCV score) of any nominee for president in modem history. As proof of his cenimitment to our environment. Kerry has received the endorsement of countless environmen tal advocacy organiza tions. Bush has received the endorsement of none.
