CAMPUS OPINION March 21 2005 Million Dollar Baby not like other boxing films KATHERINE BARROW Contributing Writer Million Dollar Baby has become the talk of town in Hollywood. After winning Oscars for Best Actrcss, Best Actor in a Supporting Role and Best Picturc, Clint Eastwood has proved to the world that his carecr is far from over. Million Dollar Baby could easily be de scribed as just another box ing movie, but that would be missing the entire point of the film. While Maggie, the fe male boxer played by Hilary Swank, definitely shows off some very realistic boxing, the movie’s touching rela tionship between Maggie and her trainer, Frankie, is the type of relationship one could only wish to have. FrankiCj;^ P.^^yed by Clint Eastwood, is the owner of a run-down gym, and very reluctant to accept Maggie as one of his own students. Maggie’s persistence and southern charm, however, win him over. Frankie’s right hand man and em ployee, Eddie ‘Scrap Iron’ photo courtesy of www.rottentomatoes.com Clint Easwood and Hilary Swank star in Million Dollar Baby. Dupris, played by Morgan Freeman, is a wise and hon orable man who believed in Maggie from the start. The chemistry between all three actors in this film is enough reason alone to see it. If you think the ending to this film would be similar to what you’d sec in a Rocky movie, then you would be wrong. The amazing twist to this story is one that is sure to give you a shock. Million Dollar Baby por trays love and connection between three amazing in dividuals that form a bond stronger than blood. Roger Ebert, from the Chicago Sun-Times explains, Mil lion Dollar Baby is the kind of film where “one finds the simplicity and directness of classical storytelling; it is the kind of movie where you sit very quietly in the theater and are drawn deeply into the lives that you care very much about.” Spring Formal Sky of Diamonds...
