CLASSIFIEDS January 25,20M 8 Meredith College to Welcome Doctors Without Borders Meredith College will welcome Doctors Without Borders Executive Direc tor Nicolas dc Torrente on Thursday, Feb. 16 at 7 p.m. in Jones Auditorium. The lecture by de Torrente is part of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Caro lina Presidential Lecture Series at Meredith College . The lecture is also being held as part of Meredith College ’s Founders’ Day celebra tion. De Torrente will discuss “Humanitarian Responses to Conflict and Crisis.” With examples drawn from his organization’s recent experi ences during the earthquake in Pakistan, the nutritional emergency in Niger, the on going violence in Darflir, Sudan and the fight against AIDS, de Torrente will talk about how and when the organization decides to in tervene; the importance of First GRE Study Session If you registered for the Verbal Reasoning and Analytical sections GRE review, the first session is tomorrow, January 25 from 7-9pm. Don’t forget, the required text is The GRE for Dummies, 5th Edition, by Suzee Vlk and can be purchased in the campus bookstore. FOREIGN LANGUAGE COMPETENCY The next round of testing for foreign language competency is scheduled as follows: Spanish, Monday, February 20, 5-7 pm; French, Tuesday, February 21,5-7 pm. Other languages will be scheduled as needed. Enrollment ends February 13 at 5:00 pm. Doctors Without Borders, also known as Medecins Sans Frontieres, is an inter national humanitarian relief agency that was founded in 1971 by a group of French physicians. Doctors Without Borders, which currently has 2,500 volunteers working in over 80 countries, was the recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1999. De Torrente holds a Ph.D. in international relations from the London School of Economics. A Swiss nation al, he has worked extensive ly with humanitarian crises around the world, including Somalia, Liberia, the Congo and Afghanistan .
