MEMORIES CONT, Apru 12,2m j Angel cont. from pg. 1 to all of the expectations Dr. Creagji placed on my success and future. IVibutes cont. from pg. 2 Who else but our unique Mad Hatter would have the heart to mimic Grace Slick, at full volume, on stage in Jones Auditorium? In his memory, we should all "remember what the gargoyle said." I'm cer tain that every moment I shared with John involved a giggle of some sort, about something. He had that gift! -Rhonda Zingraff, Department of Sociology & Social Work At the lunch table, John Creagh was often an amusing raconteur, and one of his favorite stories grew out of the remark able likeness between himself and Tom Hulce, the actor who played Wolfgang Mozart in the film Amadeus. John told about going to restau rant when the movie was current and being spotted by a Tom Hulce fan. At first John explained to her that although he looked like Hulce, he wasn't Hulce. But the fan was so convinced that Creagh was her idol, he decided not to disappoint her. He gave her a Hulce auto graph and an imitation of the famous laugh from the movie. Both profited: the fan had a moment to remember and John a great story. -Louise Taylor Besides knowing John as a wonderful colleague and fellow department head, I had the great good for tune to get to know John when he enrolled in my faculty ethics seminar. He was a delightful, furmy and totally committed student of ethical theory. He enriched that experi ence for all of us-and I will miss his wit, his good humour, his irreverence, and his generous sup port. -Janet Nelson, Head, Department of Religion and Philosophy I will miss John Creagh. He was my graduation buddy. We would sit at graduation and ponder the world. Graduation was always a good time to share our philosophies - we so rarely talked during the school year. Sometimes our chats would end on a posi tive note, believing that our students were going into a welcoming envi ronment; other times, not so positive. However, it was always great to hear his perspective. That seat next to me at graduation will not be vacant, but my heart will be. -Toni Parker I first met John Creagji when he volunteered at Washington Elementary school, when Anna was a student there. He was so dedicated to being the best "Dad" and always supported his daughter unconditionally. He was a model parent in every way. When I arrived at Meredith College in 2003 to direct the Teaching Fellows Program, he was the first to welcome me with a big hug and much gratitude for helping his daughter when die was in grade school. What a loving, decent man he was who will be genu inely missed by his family and his Meredith family. -Allynna Stone, Director of Teaching Fellows Program I was fortunate to partic ipate in the Wavelengths program last year, which Jolm directed. That was when I realized what a g;ifted, visionary indi vidual he was. At every meeting he arrived with several more unusual and interesting ideas about how to honor the victims of the natural disasters that were the focus of Wavelengths. His creativity and generosity set the tone for this unusual performance. He shared his inspiration easily and naturally witii the entire Wavelengths committee. -Jeannette Rogers, Departmental Assistant for Music, Dance & Theatre I did not know Dr. Creagh personally, but I always thought he was so thoughtful when he'd call our office (Office of flie Registrar). When he'd call, he would always ask, "Who am I speak ing with?" Then he greeted me nicely. He always sounded as though he had a smile oti his face. He was such a personable and friendly person. I miss his calls already! -Yvonne Zaragoza, Office of the Registrar The very first class I took here at Meredith (1997) was Speech with John Creagh. I was very nervous as it had been years and years since I was in school. I received a "B" in his class and was delighted with that. I learned so much from John and his Speech class. -Gini Stelle, Office of Financial Assistance John Creagh will always be one of my favorite people. He was one of the most student- centered professors I have known. He knew why he was a teacher and always advocated for students and student achieve ment. Beyond that, John always had a smile or a joke for me in the hall way. I cannot begin to say how many times see ing John in the hallway was a turning point in my day, always making my outlook sunnier. His the atre stories made me belly laugh and his keen mind always had me thinking new droughts about the atre, art, music, opera. King Artiiur, Streetcar, and, of course, about how to hve life. I count myself among the lucky ones to have known him; he made a difference with his life. -Dr. LisaFredenburgh Director of Choral Activities I can't think about John without a smile on my face! Every The committee meeting, every conversation he was the life of the party-the joker, the person who had the best line for a laugh. I will miss you, John, every time I sit in a meeting and it tends to go on too long and you aroi't there to make the moments bearable.
