Lobster Fest 2019 What’s Up With PARC? By Terry Smith By Jean McDanal The 14th Annual Lobster Fest will take place at St. Francis by the Sea Episcopal Church on Saturday, October 19. Live lobsters are delivered to the church directly from Maine, and on-site cooks prepare them to go and for meals served at the church. One team of workers spends the day in the back of the refrigerated delivery truck filling orders for live lobsters and keeping the cook team supplied while another team cracks the claws and cuts the tails to ease the process of eating the lobster. The sanctuary is turned into a dining room where dedicated volunteers serve dine-in and take-out meals. The lobsters are large, approximately iy2 pounds each, and are exceptionally good. A complete lobster dinner, including potato salad, coleslaw and homemade dessert, is $25. Add a cooked lobster to an eat-in dinner or take cooked lobsters home for $21 eachi If you are feeling more adventuresome, you can get live lobsters for $19 each and cook them at home. Eat-in meals will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Take-out meals and live and cooked lobsters will be available from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets are available from parishioners or by calling the church office at 240- 2388, and it is recommended that tickets be purchased by October 14. Special delivery is available upon request for orders of 10 or more. Credit cards (Discover, Mastercard or Visa) will be accepted by phone (no voicemail orders, please) or in person at the church, Monday-Friday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Check with the church office at the number above to be sure someone is available to take your order before coming to purchase t tickets. St. Francis by the Sea is located at 920 Salter Path Road in Salter Path. As we leave summer behind, the Parks and Recreation Committee (PARC) is gearing up for our fall and winter events. The Pine Knoll Shores Fishing Tournament will take place on October 19. Please see additional information in a separate article in this issue of The Shoreline. It is not too early to start thinking about adopting a military family for the Kayak for the Warriors Angel Tree. Details will be given in next months issue. Please see our separate article on the Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot. There are big changes this year.' Your Parks and Recreation Committee welcomes suggestions for activities that will get people out, moving and involved. We are soliciting ideas for events of interest to residents and property owners.
