I am a lifelong listener, learner and problem solver. I believe the mayors most important job is to ensure every citizen knows the issues being considered by the town manager, committees and commissioners, and to create a forum for every citizen, resident and nonresident, to express opinions without time limits. I know what it means to be a team member, and I believe every person in this small town is a team member to be valued. Secondly, the mayors role is to see a bigger picture, with details falling to the expertise of committees, town manager, town employees and hired consultants. As a practicing lawyer, I received the highest ranking for integrity and have carried that through all aspects of my life. I believe in transparency, and you will always be able to count on my word. Top priority, if elected: The first thing I will do is to work with the commissioners to establish better communications with residents. We are able to send hurricane messages, and we should be able to send messages about what is being considered. We will also create procedures for residents to express their opinions fully. I will work with the tovm manager to ensure that we have good human resources policies and that our employees are properly taken care of The weakest part of our strategic plan is how to encourage a sense of community. First we need to find out what each neighborhood wants so that Pine KnoU Shores is “home” and “paradise” to everyone. Different neighborhoods seem to have different priorities, and with our changing demographics and more young families, everyone’s priorities must be considered. We need to better support the Parks and Recreation Committee in aU its endeavors. Through its activities, volunteerism and participation across neighborhoods is encouraged. In these ways, we become one community, not just one town. Please review my website for more detail and ideas: Margaretpeggyyoungforpksmayor.com.
