A membership fee would be required and, of course, a certain number of these memberships would have to be sold in order to get the plan started. There will be a write-up in the local paper within the next week giving details. It will tell whom to contact if you might be interested. Watch for it. --------- oOo --------- PINE KNOLL SHORES GARDEN CLUB NEWS Members of the Pine Knoll Shores Garden Club were gratified by two successful projects in December. On Wednesday, the 14th, 278 persons toured the homes decorated for the Christmas Tour. Thanks to the talents of the club members, President Ann Hitch's original concept of the tour, and the weatherman's help, it was an afternoon enjoyed by all the people involved. The weathennan also cooperated with a beautifully still and starry Christmas Eve for the Luminaria celebration. Yola Hanan and Lois Heffelfinger served as co chairpersons of this community project, which has been sponsored by the Garden Club for many years. Sales of the Luminaria kits were very good this year and many donations from the townspeople made it possible to light all of Brock Basin for the first time, as well as the Hall Haven marina. The candles lighted at Hall Ha\enwere dedicated to the memory of Bob Marshall. At the January 13th meeting, Mrs. Judy Spitzbergen, executive director of the Beaufort Historical Society, will be speaking on the effects of vegetation on the island's history. Following the meeting, the members are planning to meet for lunch at the Ramada Inn. JOAN DAWSON --------- oGo --------- ANCIENT MARINERS As this goes to press the first half of the 87-88 bowling season is now history. Through the 12th week of bowling George Broadstreet's team remains in first place with 33^ points with three teams looking over their shoulders: John Knights' team with 32 points, Millie Herbst's team with 30 points and Arnie Smith's team with 29 points. Lily Zaminer with a great game of 214 and Jan Maxwell with a 180 joined the ladies 180-plus club. Not surprisingly, Millie Herbst repeated with a season high of 218. Virginia Greata [499] joined the 450-plus club and Millie Herbst repeated twice [540-563]. Dave Hasulak [505] joined the 500-plus club with the following repeaters: Duane Mead [576], George Broadstreet [556, 544, 522], Bob Gallo [543,515, 501, 579] Bob Herbst [534] Herb Roselle [517, 515], John Keegan [516] and Ed Peters [504]. The 200-plus club had the perennial pair repeat Bob Gallo [202] and George Broadstreet [208,209]. The Mid-Season Banquet will probably be over when this issue of the Shore Line is available. If so, hope a good time was had by all. Our thanks to Stew Cox, Minnie and Si Bezuyen for the entertainment portion, and to Mary and Dick Wiker and Lib Fleming for the planning of an excellent dinner.
