Page 8 The Shoreline March 2006 Around Town By Bob Ruggiero Bon Voyage-Agnes Murphy, a long-time Pine Knoll Shores resident is leaving our area and will reside at Lady Lake, Florida. Friends held a going away party for Agnes at the home of Bob and Paulette Murphy (no relation). We all wish a fond farewell to Agnes and many happy days in Florida. Linda and Richard Seale perched on a ridge above Aimirante Brown Research Station on Paradise Bay in Antarctica. Antarctica is a bit closer to our minds these days what with “The March of the Penguins” movie. Richard and Linda Seale thought it a good idea to check out not only the penguins but whales and “cousin seals” too. In early January, the Seale’s ventured to Ushuaia Argentina, the southernmost city in the world, boarded the Russian research vessel “Akademik Shokalsky” with 42 other adventurous spirits and in two days crossed 500 miles of the notorious Drake Passage to the Antarctic Peninsula. The small ship allowed sailing close to shores, between islands and In Memoriam Seeing Agnes off were Bob Murphy, Bill Stanley, Maryann Johnson, Bill Keefe, Mary Cameron, Ronnie Stanley, Bob Marshall, Tina Keefe, John Riso, Michael Murray, Fran Zaik, Paulette Murphy, Maureen Danehy, Dot Riso, Agnes Murphy, Grace Marshall, Kathy Murray, Barbara Zaik into a flooded caldera. The ship was equipped to launch 16 foot motorized Zodiacs which brought the adventurers to shore. A goal of the trip was to be up close and personal with all the wonders of Antarctica, from icebergs to millions of Gentoo, Chinstrap and Adelie penguins, and to hike and climb in the rocks, snow and ice. The weatherproved to be the best the tour guides had ever experienced with sunshine, blue skies and calm winds. These conditions made the ice sparkle and reflect in the seas while contrasting with the blue sky and blue waters. Completing some “seventh continent” challenges, the Seales managed a “polar plunge” in 34 degree water at Deception Island. And Richard “rowed a little boat” at Aitcho Island, a personal tribute in memory of his Grandfather Nilsen and his father Winston Seale who first taught him about the sea and rowing boats. Twelve days and 1800 nautical miles later, the Seales safely returned to Ushuaia. Rachel, Hannah and Nathan Multiple births sure run in this family. Fran and Barbara Zaik’s son Ed and wife Kelly Ann jump-started their family on Jan. 18 when Kelly gave birth to a set of twins, Owen and Noel. The couple resides in Albany, NY. Stay with me on this one!. Fran and Barbara in the past had triplets, Andrea, Brigitte and Christina. Two of the triplets live in CT, the other in NJ. The Zaik’s other daughter, Dianna Weinbaum, also has triplets Nathan, Hannah and Rachel. Barbara Zaik’s sister Francis’s son has triplets Chandler, Conner and Carson. Francis’s other son has twin boys, Weston and William. How about that for building a family in the shortest possible way! h Andrea, Brigitte and Christina •la «!• mlm Owen and Noel •I? •I* The annual spring brunch of the Pine Knoll Shores Woman’s Supper Club was held at the home of Mayor Joan Lamson Feb. 19.
