Two THE MILL WHISTLE September IG, 194G Eugene Caudle, two years old, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Caudle. Father works in Bedspread Spinning. Woolen Mill News ^ By Millard Wlnecoff J. G. Halsey has just returned from vacation which he spent on Nantucket Island, Mass. As for traveling: it takes 12 hours to get to Nantucket Island from New York by boat and train. But to save time Mr. Halsey flew both ways on a DC4—time: one hour and 20 min utes each way. Mr. and Mrs. Rholie Bailey spent Saturday in Greensboro shopping. In cidentally, they have just moved into their new home in New Leaksville. Mrs. Grace Roberts is certainly all smiles because she has moved in a brand new home—all hers, too. Also, her son, Jesse, seems to be having a big time in school—his first year. I suppose Tom Betts should rate the front page but he hasn't given me a ride in his new Chrysler yet, so I’ll just have to “dock” him a little. Incidentally, if the Woolen Mill office calls for Dr. Reeser, the “Doc” better bring his cold remedies ’cause Mr. Betts says every one he takes to ride must “Remove shoes before entering.” Also, 1 under stand someone had to push him off at lunch the other day. (Editor’s Note: Try turning on the switch.) Your reporter was just offered 25c per week for life from Harvey Shively. I am regretful I cannot disclose the rea son. Everette Edwards is welcomed to the shop. He is the electrician and was for merly employed by Southern Electric in Greensboro. However, before going to Southern Electric he was employed by Marshall Field and Company. Mrs. Lillie Lemons visited her broth er, Warren Gatewood, of Dorasville, Ga., last week. Our best wishes to “Paf’ Patterson, and a speedy recovery from his opera tion. Bleachery News By Charlotte Martin Well, folks, here t am back again after being absent from the news a while. I’ve always heard “A bad penny always turns up” so here I am. We have some new employees and we give them a hearty welcome. They are Iris Balser and Polly Gunn. Wel come, girls, and hope you will like us. We also have back with us after be ing in service for some time Ray Land. Glad to have you back, Ray. The folks out on the sick list are— Erah Thomasson, Mayme Richardson, Allie Lee, Vena Alexander, and Millie Seal. Hurry back, girls. We sure do miss Betty Ann Shropshire celebrated her 11th birthday August 31 when she en tertained a group of young people at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leon Shropshire, both of the Rayon Mill. Gail Ann Minter, three years old, is daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Emerson Min ter, of Fieldale. Her father is assistant foreman of the Towel Mill Shipping Department. you. Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Wilson and chil dren spent the week-end in Axton, Va., with the former’s father, Mr. Ben Wil son. Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Richardson at tended the funeral of the latter’s aunt, Mrs. Dollie Sharon, Sunday at Palestine Methodist Church, near Stokesdale. Mrs. Porter Setliff and children have returned to their home in Philadelphia after spending some time with her mother, Mrs. Dora Fowler. We miss Harley Midkifl: who is out sick, also. And please be careful Har ley—and hurry back to work. Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Fisher and family recently viewed the sights at Hanging Rock and Nag’s Head. We sure do miss “Mr. Al” Hodgson, who has been out sometime sick, and hope he will soon be able to be back with us. We wish for you a very speedy recovery. Birthday Dinner Mrs. Annie Meeks celebrated her birthday Sunday with around 100 of her friends, relatives and children.
