Start Sales Today (Continued from page one) 4.5 X 6 size. “We have two fine local dealers, the Pace-Stone Furniture Com pany in Leaksville and the Wall Furni ture Company in Spray, who are doing good jobs in retailing our Karastan rugs and carpets, and we have no intention of going into that field,” he said. “Establishment of the new store and the Fieldcrest Shop follows many re quests that we make our complete lines available to all of the people in the local area,” Mr. Whitcomb said. “Also, the Fieldcrest Shop enables us for the first time to display all of the products of the Fieldcrest domestics mills at one place in the mill area.” Customers Will See Shop In addition to aiding sales, the Field crest Shop will be advantageous in showing merchandise to customers who visit the mills. Customers will be able to see the merchandise properly display ed and will see displays and fixtures which they can duplicate in Fieldcrest Shops in their own stores. In colonial architecture on a land scaped site with paved parking areas, the store is located in the Central Area between Leaksville, Spray, and Draper on new Highway 14, near the Morehead Memorial Hospital. W. P. Groseclose, formerly of J. B. Ivey & Company in Charlotte, is the store manager, assisted by a staff of six persons. (Pete) Barham, Jr., a teacher at Reidsville Senior High School, has been awarded a full year’s scholarship from the National Science Foundation to study at the University of North Caro lina for the academic year 1962-63. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Bar ham, of Leaksville. His father is fore man of the Winding and Setting Depart ment at the Karastan Rug Mill. Pete Barham is a graduate of Wake Forest College and a major in biology. He is in his fourth year of teaching at Reidsville. Besides teaching biology and chemistry, he is the Drivers’ Training teacher in the summer and is an assist ant coach for football and baseball. He piayed varsity football at Wake Forest for three years and during his Senior year was awarded the Phil Har ris Sportsmanship Award, for best ath lete and best sportmanship. The present scholarship is his second from the National Science Foundation. Virginia Governor Albertis S. Harri son, Jr., and members of the Virginia General Assembly have received boxed sets of Fieldcrest’s Royal Velvet towels and washcloths, presented by the sena tor and delegates from the Fieldale area. A “Royal Carnation” set was present ed Governor Harrison in the governor’s office by Sen. William F. Stone, of Mar tinsville, Del. A. L. Philpott, of Bassett, and Del. Robert L. Clark, of Stuart. Royal Carnation sets also were pre sented Lieutenant Governor Mills E. Godwin, Attorney General Robert Y. Button and the Speaker of the House, E. Blackburn Moore. “Rose Bouquet” sets were presented to members of the Senate by Sen. Stone and to members of the House by Del. Philpott and Del. Clark. Rose Bouquet sets also were presented to staff groups of the General Assembly. Sen. Stone pointed out that the Field crest Towel Mill at Fieldale “is the only towel manufacturing plant in the state.” As Senate pages handed out the towel sets, Sen. Stone urged the senators to make certain that their wives purchase towels manufactured in Virginia. C. B.
