Plaques Are Awarded For Outstanding Support Of Project D.T.C.
Employees of the Karastan Mill and
of the Technical Services Department
have been awarded bronze plaques in
recognition of their outstanding support
of project D.T.C., the building fund for
the Diagnostic and Treatment Center
at Morehead Memorial Hospital.
The plaques will be permanently dis
played in the lobby of the new wing
of the hospital.
Given by the hospital’s board of
trustees, the plaques were presented in
ceremonies at the respective locations.
William B. Lucas, president of the hos
pital board, made the presentations. He
reviewed the finance campaign for the
hospital addition and praised the em
ployees for their generous and unselfish
support of Project D.T.C.
A large number of employees attend
ed the ceremonies held at shift change
time in the afternoon at the Karastan
Mill and at the Karastan Service Center.
J. M. Norman, mill manager, spoke
briefly and presented J. G. Cunning
ham, superintendent, who accepted the
plaque on behalf of the employees.
The plaque for the Technical Services
Department was presented in the office
of R. H. Tuttle, director of technical
services, and was accepted by Mr. Tuttle
on behalf of all the employees in the
department. Present for the ceremony
were heads of the sub-departments.
In the Project D.T.C. campaign, the
Karastan Mill had the highest average
contribution per person, $38.82. The
Technical Services Department was the
major staff department with the highest
average contribution per person, $92.95.
The department includes Research and
Quality Control, Domestics Product De
velopment, Mechanical Development.
The Karastan Mill and the Technical
Services Department established their
outstanding records in the highly-suc-
cessful Project D.T.C. campaign at
Fieldcrest in June of 1962. Fieldcrest
employees pledged a total of over $131,-
000 including $3,600 contributed by the
directors of Fieldcrest Mills, Inc., as
individuals.
The Company contributed $50,000,
making a total gift of over $181,000 for
Fieldcrest employees and company and
representing over 60% of the over-all
community goal of $300,000.
IVIr. Lucas presents plaque to J. G. Cunningham, mill super
intendent, who accepted the award on behalf of Karastan
employees. At far right is Mr. Norman, and at extreme left is
F. W. Klein, assistant mill manager.
In similar meeting at Karastan Service Center, Mr. Lucas
expressed appreciation to employees in that location. Here,
