The Great GifJ-Life-Saving Blood We are into the season for giving, and this Christmas Fieldcresters will have an opportunity to give the greatest gift of all — the gift of life itself. They can do this by donating blood when the Bloodmobile is stationed at First Methodist Church, Draper, Friday, December 27, from 11 a. m. until 4:30 p. m. The need is great. Hospitalized patients of the Tri-Cities are using more blood than is being donated. The usage of blood by local patients has exceeded collections by more than 100 pints since July 1. Blood needs rise during the Christmas holidays due to an increased number of automobile wrecks and other accidents. Thus far in the fiscal year, bload is being used by Tri-City patients at the rate of 192 pints every two months. Obviously, the Bloodmobile must collect an average of 192 pints on each of its bi-monthly visits if the Tri-Cities are to maintain their usage quota. New, additional donors are urgently needed if blood is to continue to be available for the community’s sick and injured. The Tri-City Blood Program has met the ENTIRE blood needs of local people since the program was begun in 1961. No person has ever been denied blood because it was not available. Under the program, there is no charge for the blood itself. The Blood Program is rendering a vital service in the medical care of Tri-City people. But there is a desperate need for increased blood donations. Each community is responsible for meeting its own needs and cannot for long receive more blood than is being collected. With the usage continuing to exceed the donatioTis, the December 27 visit will be a crucial one. If only the regular donors give on this visit, the deficit will become larger. But if enough new, additional donors give blood, then the program will be put back on a firmer basis and can continue to help save lives and restore health. Won’t you become a volunteer donor and have the satisfaction of knowing that you helped save someone’s life, perhaps someone dear to you. Donors may give blood in the name of someone who has re ceived blood, in memory of someone, or in honor of someone you love and for whom you want to do something special at Christmastime. At this holiday season, what nobler gift could you give than life- saving blood to somebody who is critically ill? Life and health are the greatest gifts. You have the privilege of giving them. « m Issued Every Other Monday and Friends of Fielderest MiMSi i|,t. Copyright, 1963, Fielderest Mill®' Spray, N.
