Lelia Roberson Feted For 50 Years’ Service Heldcresters Are Elected To Jaycee Offices Many Fieldcrest employees are among the new officers of the Eden Jaycees who have just started a new year. The new officers were installed at the recent annual installation and awards night program at Meadow Greens Country Club. The banquet and dance highlighted the past year and served as a kick-off of the Jaycees’ twenty-second year of service to the community. Toastmaster was Warren Wilson, an “aged-out” Jaycee. Guest speaker was Senator Harry Bagnal, N. C. minority leader from Winston-Salem, who dis cussed law and order. He urged the Jaycees to ‘pursue a path of sanity, faith, hope and prayer.” Spoke awards were presented to seven first-year Jaycee members. Spoke of the Year went to Frank Her, an out standing first-year member and chair man of the Christmas Tree sale for the needy. Spark Plug awards were presented to 15 Jaycees in recognition of their serv ice. Spark Plug of the Year was award- Avoid Driver Error; Be Safe Off The Job Don’t be a statistic! Key Man Awards were presented five Jaycees who were selected by the board of directors for their outstanding con tributions to the organization; Ron Nor wood, external vice president; Jimmy Wright, immediate past president and Area C state vice president; Bobby Brooks, concession chairman; Bob Har ris, membership chairman and Jabber editor; and Jackie Wright, 1968-69 president. One of the highlights of the evening was the presentation of the coveted Jaycee of the Year award by Bill Crumley, last year’s winner, to Robert W. Harris. The Jaycee of the Year is chosen by secret ballot of the general membership. Harris was chairman of the membership and records recognition committees. Miss Roberson and a sister live about a mile north of Fieldale in a house they have owned for many years. She has been a member of the Fieldale Metho dist Church for 35 years. The relationship between Sears and Fieldcrest is a long standing one and is a true partnership based on mutual trust and respect, he said. F. E. Barron, manager of the bed spread operation, was master of cere monies at each presentation. He thank ed the employees for their fine perfor mance and expressed his pride in the workforce of the bedspread operation. In brief remarks, R. A. Harris, Field crest vice president, manufacturing, con gratulated the employees and expressed the general management’s appreciation lor their outstanding performance. He said the Company has confidence in the future of the bedspread operation, as evidenced by the substantial expansion program that is now under way. As part of the celebration of winning the award, a barbecue dinner was served in the mills to all employees. Mr. Steffy was the guest of honor at a luncheon with members of general management at the Meadow Green^ Country Club Thursday, May 1. In ^ brief talk. President G. W.
