Two First Aid Courses Taught At Smithfield Members of the Burns security force and selected plant personnel from the Automatic Blanket Plant, Smithfield, have completed first aid courses taught by Sgt. Alton Wilson of the Burns se curity organization at Eden. The course for the security men was to train them in helping to provide pro tection and safety for employees. The course for plant personnel was for de partmental first aid attendants and placed emphasis on rendering first aid the for industrial-type injuries. First aid attendants completing course were Glenda Hinnant, _ Jones, Dayton Barber, Lois Keith, ard Moore, Eddie Wood and Deni" Davis. Fleldcrest Foreman Is Cited For Good Deed A Fleldcrest Mills supervisor has re ceived recognition for being a Good Samaritan in helping an Arizona cou ple who were stranded near Eden when their car broke down. Jerry H. Corum, a shift supervisor at the Draper Sheeting Mill, was the subject of a long write-up in the Mar tinsville (Va.) Bulletin in connection with his good deed. The story unfolded Sunday afternoon, July 18, when Mr. and Mrs. Greyson Sandy of Phoenix, Arizona, left Mar tinsville for the return trip to Phoneix via Charlotte. Near Mayodan they had car trouble and pulled off the road. While they were deciding what to do, Mr. Corum stopped to see if he could help. He and Mr. Sandy spent two or three hours trying to start the ca without success. Mr. Corum made sev eral trips of several miles to obtain water and another trip to get a jum; cable. Finally, Mr. Corum went off in search of a mechanic, but because it was Sun day afternoon, he had trouble in fin ing one. After trying three or four places, he mot with success. Meanwhile the plot had thickened. Mr. Corum was not through with his good deeds for the day. Up the road a m mWi * ■ JERRY CORUM little way another stranger was havi" trouble with his Opel.
