Wedding Plans Set Draper Parade To Be Held Saturday, Dec. 2 Miss Phyllis Jane Turner, daughter of Mrs. Mae Turner and the late R. Ed Turner of Fieldale, will marry Richard Clyde Hughes on December 30 in St. Bridget’s Church in Richmond, Va. Miss Turner, an employee of C & P Telephone Company in Richmond, is a graduate of Fieldale-Collinsville High School. Her mother is employed as a hemmer in the Sewing Department at the Fieldale Towel Mill. Her father was a long-service employee in the Carding Department at Fieldale. Mr. Hughes is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence C. Hughes of Richmond. He is presently serving in the United States Army, stationed at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. The sixth annual Draper Chrstmas Parade is scheduled for 11 a.m. Satur day, December 2. The parade, expected to be the big gest and best ever held in the Draper section, is sponsored by the Draper Y’s Men’s Club, Eden Fire Station No. 2 (Draper) and Draper merchants. Dan Squires, of the Draper Sheeting Mill Spinning Department and a mem ber of the Y’s Men’s Club, is in charge of the arrangements. He said the parade will feature floats, bands, city and county officials, go carts and beauty queens. A highlight will be the selection of a “Parade Princess” from the Draper section. Mr. Squires emphasized that all ap propriate community groups are invit ed to enter floats in the parade. Those interested in participating should get in touch with Mr. Squires at 635-5343, or any memjber of the Y’s Men’s Club or Fire Station No. 2. Daryl Duane Willis Daryl Duane Wil lis, 10 months old, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jasper R. Willis. His father is a lift truck operator at the Karastan Service Center. His mother, Nancy, is an inspect or at the Bedspread Mill. Squi lires Has 35 Years; Was Left Off Report Daniel W. (Dan) Squires completed 35 years of continuous service August 31 but somehow his name was omitted from] the published list of those observ ing service anniversaries. The omission has just been discovered and The Mill Whistle is glad to take note of an out standing work record. A native of the Draper section of Eden, Mr. Squires has been employed continuously since August 31, 1937. began as a color man in the Cotton Spinning Department at the Blanket Greige Mill. He later was a size man and timekeeper before entering mill' tary service in World War II. A staff sergeant in the Air Force, served four years in the Pacific as an airplane mechanic and crew chief. returned in 1946 and after working briefly as an overhauler helper becarn® a supervisor in the Cotton Spining De partment at the Draper Sheeting Mill He continues as shift foreman in that department. Byrd Children Glenna Michelle Byrd, age 2V2, uhd Edward Todd Byrd, age 9V2, are tk® children of Lorene Byrd and the lal® Glenn Byrd. Mrs. Byrd was formerlJ’ employed as an inspector in the Blanket Finishing Mill. Mr. Byrd was employed at the Karastan Service Center. The children’s grandfather, Obr® Worsham, works in the Spinning DO' partment at the Draper Sheeting Mill- Boyd Daughters -..Jo?. Gina Boyd (left) of Eden, and FU’' cilia Boyd, who attends Laurel Pa^'l' (Va.) High School, both observed birth' days in November. They are the daugh' tors of Mrs. Adele Boyd who is employ' ed in the Weave Room at the Bedspread Mill.
