Shotgun / Seot. 29 - Oct. 8 / BeBe Theatre The Different Strokes Performing Arts Collective had a big success with their production of Love! Valor! Compassion! in May, and are revving up to follow it up with John Biguenet’s Shotgun, a play about life in New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina. This new company is filled with talented and caring people certain to leave an impression on the Asheville theatre scene. www.differentstrokesavl.com Shangri-La / Sept. 29 - Oct. 8 / The Magnetic Field The Magnetic Theatre at the Magnetic Field “gives original works and the people who make them a home to share with enthusiastic audiences.” Their current offering is Shangri-La, a play set in a retirement trailer park in Florida, by Lucia Del Vecchio, author of The Family Tree, which I was lucky enough to see this past spring. www.themagneticfield.com Guvs & Dolls / Sept. 30 - Oct. 9 / Asheville Community Theatre Local mainstay, Asheville Community Theatre presents the quintessential American musical, Guys & Dolls. Gamblers, missionaries, and hot box girls collide in 1940’s New York City. www.ashevilletheatre.org Romeo & Juliet / Oct. 13 - 23 / Asheville Masonic Temple The Montford Park Players open their winter season with the classic tale of star crossed lovers. The Players are coming off of a very successful summer season with a variety of interesting takes on the immortal bard. Their “ mixed media” production promises to continue that trend. www.montfordparkplayers.org Angels in America / Oct. 13 - Nov. 13 / North Carolina Stage Company Angels in America is a seminal work of the American stage, and NC Stage is presenting Parts 1 & 2 in repertory this fall. They presented Part 1 (Millenium Approaches) in their previous season, and this time around they’ve added Montreat professor Callan White to the cast!
