TOM ANDERSON A great nationally-known fundamentalist preacher and I were discussing Israel's defensive” attack on Iraq. He has been to Israel many times and knows many Is raelites, as well as Arabs, intimately. He also knows the Bible intimately. It disturbs me very much” he told me, “that so many brethren cannot dif ferentiate between Begin’s cruel and terrorist regime and the Messianic kingdom of Israel, which will not come until the Lord comes as King. “A group of men (some of whom for many years have been my personal friends but who are today taking a very weak position on the matter of separation from apostate organizations, and compromise with unbelief) visited Mr. Begin when he was at Blair House to assure him that Fundamentalists stood solidly behind his poli cies. The average Funda mentalist preacher doesn’t know what his policies are. He is a cruel terrorist — wicked, arrogant, and anti- Gospel. These men had no credentials and no authority to speak for Fundamental ism, generally when they talked to Begin, but I think they did represent the view point of ignorant funda mentalists who have been sold a bill of goods. “Personally, though I can not prove it and have no evidence to support my o- pinion, I feel very strongly that Begin was behind the bombing of the mayors of the cities on the West Bank. That act was certainly in character and I have seen no evidence that anybody has been arrested or tried for those acts of terrorism.” Congressional “Take” Our Congress is a body of deleterious dignitaries char ged with high duties and low crimes. And vice versa. House members are get ting a cost-of-living increase in their office and travel accounts. If it weren’t for them, cost-of-living increas es wouldn’t be necessary. They bestowed the inflation on us, and most of us have no cost-of-living protection. The increases the honorable House members get amount to a maximum $27,100 a year, putting the new top at $120,300. And it’s retroactive to May 1. Most of the addition went into travel to pay for 32 round-trips home. That’s nearly one every Vk weeks. (How long since your Congressman has visited with you?) For far-away Congressmen, like from the west coast or Alaska, the increase is $38,000, a hike of about $14,800, So how did your Cong ressman vote on this addit ional take? They weren’t honest enough to have a floor vote. They just maneu vered it. They are night gardeners who stealthily shake the fruit trees of their neighbors — to dislodge the worms. The Honorable Con-gressmen are not, you understand, ordinary thiev es. They’re kleptomaniacs or rich thieves. They relent lessly take the pulse of the nation — and anything else that isn’t nailed down. Big Brother is now spend ing $22,000 a second, and many of the con men in the Congress are saying there’s nothing we can cut. Which reminds me of Mark Twain’s observation: “I was a reporter in a legislature two sessions and the same in Congress one session — and thus learned to know personally three sample-bodies of the small est minds and the selfishest souls and the cowardliest hearts that God makes.” Mail Fraud All horses and some men must be broke before they’ll work. Billions of dollars are THE SCOTT REPORT by PAUL SCOTT NATO’S MILITARY INSECURITY Lisbon, Portugal: The North Atlantic Treaty Or ganization, despite those re cent reassuring words from its foreign and defense min isters, is in a seriously deteriorating military situa tion. High-ranking U.S. offi cers stationed here concede privately that NATO does not have the men or the arms in Western Europe to carry out its basic strategy of sustained defense along West Germany’s frontier, against a Soviet attack until reinforcements arrived. Unless the U.S. and its allies were able to carry out a rapid buildup of conven tional forces, the prospect after a few days fighting would be for NA'TO forces to fall back on tactical nuclear weapons to halt advancing Soviet forces. A Soviet response, prob ably with its growing dep loyed force of more than 225 SS-20 missiles, each with three warheads, would pro bably destroy Western Eur ope, including the NATO used airfields here in Portu gal. The major hope is that NATO and U.S. intelligence services would be able to spot and intercept Soviet war preparations and report them to the North Atlantic Council, the alliance’s high est political group, as they did during the recent crisis in Poland. Such a warning could give the West time to mobilize reserves in Europe and to start reinforcement and re supply from the U.S., Brit ain and Canada. Mobiliza tion, however, is a political as well as a military act and many U.S. officers here doubt whether such a pre cautionary move could or would be taken in time. There are several basic causes for NATO’s growing to fulfill their pledges on force planning and improve ments. While the Soviet’s firepower has more than doubled in recent years, that of Nato forces has actually deteriorated. Shortages of Reserves Shortages of reserves in both men and arms have also contributed to Nato’s weak ness. The most optimistic offic ial estimates here are that the West would be able to mobilize about 52 reserve divisions on the central and northern fronts in Europe. In sharp contrast, the Sov iets and other Warsaw Pact nations could muster reser ve forces of at least 113 divisions. Whether tjie most militar ily significant reserve form ations — those from the U.S. — could arrive in Europe after the start of hostilities is uncertain. At lantic convoys bringing troops and supplies would be under Soviet submarine at tack. U.S. pilots here report that NATO forces lack the aircraft to provide the wide protective cover that these convoys would need. MissUes, Tanks Needed The Atlantic alliance also suffers from a chronic short age of reserve weapons, munitions and fuel. Tanks, all type of precision-guided missiles, infantry fighting vehicles, and fighter and ground-support aircraft are military insecurity. Most serious of these is the im provement, in both quality and quantity, of Soviet con ventional arms and regional nuclear forces in Central Europe. Another cause is a decade of failure by the NATO members, including the U.S. not stocked in quantity. This is why senior U.S. military officers here fear after two or three days of fighting with their present arms, the NATO powers would not have the firepow er, because of losses and breakdowns, to block or turn back an all-out Soviet offensive. If the present Soviet lead ership has drawn the same conclusiop, and there are increasing signs that they may have, the agreement here is that the next two years could turn out to be the most dangerous for Western Europe since World War H >eing ripped off by ineligible bums and bungling bureau crats in the Food Stamp fraud. In any free society, hunger must be the best sauce for food. Today’s bums don’t get their money on street corners; they get it from Big Brother in the mail. Which reminds me of the town drunk who bum med a dollar from a leading citizen who admonished him: “Now George, promise me you won’t spend this for whiskey.” George took the dollar, put it in his pocket, and mumbled: “Ain’t no SOB gonna tell me how to spend my money!” For the immediate future, we face double-digit infla tion year after year. It might get to be triple-digit. Who or what is responsible? Government, government, and more government. Your cost of living is going to sky-rocket, and so are your taxes. After a few more deduct ions, your take-home pay ain't gonna get you there. Western countries have felt helpless to cope with Soviet expansion. They think strong Chinese Communist forces would help deter the USSR. To the contrary, the US playing of the Red China card has led to increased Soviet expansion in the Pacific and Indian oceans and Indochina. The Chinese Communists and the Soviet Union have been holding talks since September of 1979. They have attacked each other verbally less after than before. Red China has imported Soviet trucks, helicopters and machinery. Economic and diplomatic ties provide the basis for reconciliation at any time. In the West, Peiping tries to create a false image of opposing the Soviet Union so as to obtain scientific and technological assistance from the Free World. Selling arms to Red China would encourage aggression in the Taiwan Straits and Southeast Asia. The Chinese and Soviet Communists stand for the same ideology. They won’t fight each other before capitalism is destroyed. — New Life Daily News [ Taiwan] Bureaucracy Choking People A self-named fourth branch of government is well on its way to absolute power unless the public takes action. We are talking about the federal bureaucracy. Did you know that 54 percent of the people in this country derive all or part of their income from the government? Last year, believe it or not, the average American family of five forked over $2,350 for government regulations. Cutting the tentacles of this money-hungry bureaucracy is a vital part of President Reagan’s Program for Economic Recovery. But he can’t accomplish that gigantic task without your help. ’There is a bill that you should speak out on to the members of (your State) delegation. That is the Regulatory Reduction Act of 1981. Passage of this measure will give Congress the power it needs, a veto over the unelected federal bureaucrats. Did you know a total of 263 new government agencies were created in just the past 15 years? Unless you act, where will it all end? One Nation for All to Hate ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆ If a man could have half his wishes, he would double his troubles. — Franklin Libya’s leader, Moammar Kadafi, told the Spanish TV network recently, “The United States is stupid for expelling Libya’s diplomats. We do not see any serious motive to this decision. Nevertheless, we take pride from having no official relations with a country loathed by all people in the world.” Surprising how all the nations can hate the United States so much, yet love our money and our products, and their citizens would do almost anything to become a citizen of this hated country. —South Pasadena Review A very interesting article appeared in the January/ February 1981 issue of the magazine Liberty. It was written by Tim Ponder and was captioned: “Big Broth er’s Got Your Number.” Ponder reminds his readers that “Anyone who has at tended school, applied for a job, sent in an income tax form or used a credit card is the subject of an information file, or dossier. In fact, most adult Americans are the subject of not one but as many as twenty dossiers. ’The individual is being in formationally raped,’ ac- PONDER IT cording to Harvard law prof essor Arthur R. Miller.” Ponder then notes that “The retrieval ability of electronic data banks boggles the mind. With the use of the laser it would be possible to record a 5,000 word dos sier on every man, woman and child in the United States upon a single tape less than 5,000 feet long.” And, as might be expected, Orwell is quoted: ‘"The in vention of print... made it easier to manipulate public opinion, and the film and the radio carried the process further. With the develop ment of television and the technical advances which made it possible to receive and transmit simultaneously on the same instrument, private life came to an end. Every citizen, or at least every citizen important enough to be worth watch ing, could be kept for twen ty-four hours a day under ;,he eyes of the police... The possiblilities of enforcing not only complete obedience to the will of the state, but complete uniformity of opin ion on all subjects now existed for the first time.
