Mt. Pleasant Community Church Bell At Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Community By Betty Blanton The Senior Adult Ladies Class enjoyed a Christmas party in the church fellowship hall. For a social period prior to the meal, Mrs. Ida Sim mons served punch to the group. Then they served themselves from the tasty meal that had been prepared. After the meal, Mrs. Simmons gave a devotional and then the group participated in several games with Mrs. Clyde Blanton and Mrs. Lewis Jolley receiving the prizes. Gifts were exchanged among the class members. Mrs. Sarah Web shared her Christmas tapes with the group for the evening. Mrs. Ranny Blan ton was present as a visitor. A family get together for the Hicks brothers, Nicus, Lingie, Wofford, Lewis, Edley, John and Avero and one sister, Ruth Dawson and their spouses was held on Saturday at Quiney’s in Shelby. This dinner was to honor Nicus’s birthday. On Tuesday at the Heritage House in Gaffney, they gathered to honor Wofford on his special day. Kathy and Richard Jones visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Dixon and other relatives in the community before leaving for California. Mr. and Mrs. Jones will be making their new home in California. The Jim Washburn family spent the weekend with J. D. Cagles of Hendersonville and enjoyed at tending church with them to hear their new pastor. The adult choir held their Christmas party on Saturday evening in the fellowship hall with family members invited to share the fun and fellowship. Mrs. Bobby Headley, director of the choir, directed several games at the close of the delicious covered dish meal after which the choir held a rehearsal. Snow added to the cheer of the Christmas get together at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Greene in Ardenon Sunday when the R. T. Cromer family, the Bob Hamrick family, the Frank Hamrick fami ly, the David Hamrick family and the Buren Hamrick family enjoyed a covered dish luncheon together. The Shull Whitaker family attended the Whitaker family get together at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Whitaker on Sunday. “Night of Miracles” was the cantata presented by the adult choir on Sunday evening under the direction of Mrs. Bobby Headley. Soloists for the presentation were Larry Hicks, Sybil Jolley, Betsy McSwain, Bobby Headley, and John Hicks, ac companists were Janelle Hicks, organist, and Catherine Hicks, pianist. Choir members were the narrators. Rev. McSwain led the invocation and pronounced the benediction. Immediately following the cantata presentation there was a fellowship to honor the choir members in the fellowship hall. Christmas goodies along with punch and coffee were served from beautiful ly decorated tables. Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Headley and Ryan were Mr. and Mrs. Jim Headley and Laura of Charlotte. Dale and Sandra Blanton, owners 434-9275 Members of Harold Bishops Sunday School class invited their wives and children to a fish fry held at the community building on Saturday night. They served fish that some of the men caught at Muriels Inlet along with all the trimmings. Sunday following the worship service, the Adult Ladies Sunday School class and the Eunice Lovelace class joined together for a Christmas dinner party. They enjoyed a delicious meal along with the good fellowship. Christian sympathy to the family of Kenneth Dobbins. Funeral services for Kenneth Dobbins were held at Trinity on Tuesday afternoon. Roscue Hutchins is a patient at Charlotte Hospital where he un derwent open heart surgery on Monday. Mr. and Mrs. James Toney and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Toney, Sr. visited Mr. and Mrs. Fred Toney, Jr. of Wilmington recently. Mr. and Mrs. J.V. Buchanan of Butner came home on Sunday due to the death of Mrs. Buchanans father, Kenneth Dobbins. Grady Goode, Sr. returned home on Saturday after being a patient at Crawley Memorial Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Kirby were Saturday night supper guests of Mrs. Charles Kirby and son of Rutherfordton. Mrs. Lucille Hum phries and Mrs. Tommy Kirby were recent visitors of Mrs. Olema Price of Gaffney, S.C. Mr. and Mrs. George Skinner went to a Christmas party on Thursday night at the City Restaurant in Shelby. Mackie Lennons and his band en tertained for the evening. Mr. and Mrs. John Harris entertained on Thursday night with a family get together. Among their guests were Rev. and Mrs. E.B. Hicks of Shelby, Mrs. Aileen Hardin, Mrs. J.B. Rogers, Darrell and Eric of the Flint Hill community, along with Mr. and Mrs. B.B. Harris, Mrs. Selma Harris and Mr. and Mrs. Marion Scruggs. The Brotherhood sponsored a church wide covered dish at the Christmas party on Saturday night at the community building. Rev. J. E. Bishop, a former pastor was the speaker for the evening. Members of the Noami Sunday School class had a covered dish dinner on Sunday following the morning worship service. It was held at the community building along with their Christmas party. Roscue Hutchins re mains a patient at Charlotte Memorial Hospital after having heart surgery on Mon day. He is improving nicely. Mr. and Mrs. J. V. Buchanan of Butner returned home after having been here for a few days due to the death of Mrs. Buchanans father. Mr. and Mrs. Dan Bostic of Chesnee were Sunday afternoon guests of Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Smith. The Trinity Homemakers Club held their Christmas party at Quinceys on Monday night. Each member took a gift for a shutin in the community. After the meal and fellowship they went to the Tri City Mall at Forest City, The Baptist Women’s Morning Group met at the home of Mrs. Selma Harris on Tuesday. Mrs. Maude Bur roughs honored Bobbie Morehead of Gastonia with a dinner at her home for his birthday on Sunday. Other guests were Mr. and Mrs. Marion Morehead of Earl and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Morehead and Jennifer Morehead Cherryvllle. Mrs. Wilma Hir- chmann of Green Baltimore, MD, has been visiting with her stepmother Mrs. Nancy Harper. Mrs. Harper flew back home with Mrs. Hirchmann. The 97-year- old Mrs. Harper enjoyed flying. Mrs. Sallie Horn is a patient in Crawley Memorial Hospital. Mrs. E. D. Moore has returned home after be ing a patient in Crawley Memorial Hospital. The Evening Currant Mission Circle held their Christmas party at Bob’s Resturant in Forest City on Tuesday. The Crest View Garden Club had their meeting at the home of Mrs. Lucille Kelly with a Christmas lunch at 12 noon on Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Chris Greene of Waco, Mrs. Jack Bostic of Cliff side and Mrs. Adeliade Hum phries of Gaffney, S.C., visited with Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Moore over the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Hurshelle Greene of Shelby visited Mr. and Mrs. G. V. Scruggs during the weekend. Visitors of Madison McCraw and sisters were Mrs. Elitice Vassey of Chesnee, Mrs. Hubert Dix on of Race Path, Mrs. Nola Jones and Mrs. Charles Bolton of Cherokee Falls and Mrs. Minnie Barnes. Mrs. Steve Culberson of Charleston .and Angie McAbee of Blacksburg spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Barnes. They were in the wedding ceremonies on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Prospect Bap- tist'Church for Lesia Barnes and Glenn Moore. Mrs. Wilford Harris of Hickory is spending a few days with Mrs. Arthur Harris. Mrs. Opal Johnson of Belmont spent Wednesday with her mother, Mrs. Clara Godfrey. D. Jolley. Mrs. L. E. Wyatt of Pacolet, and Mrs. Grade Willingham visited her sister, on Sunday. Mrs. Madge Parris of Gaffney, had lunch Tues day with her sister, Mrs. Stella Scruggs. Other visitors were Mrs. John Phillips, Mrs. Marjorie Lankford, and Mrs. Gracie Willingham. Mrs. Will ingham visited Mrs. Minnie Scruggs on Thursday. ' • Flint Hill Community The musical “Home for Christmas” will be presented'" on Sunday night, December 19 at 7 p.m. It will also be aired on WGWG radio station. This music drama will include the adult choir, images and. a drama team with a total of 85 people participating. Special soloists will be Althea Ledbetter, Patti Byars, student at UNC Charlotte, Audra White, Crest High student, Bet ty Ledbetter and junior soloist Charles Freeman. The public is invited to attend. The children’s choir, grade 1-6 was hosted to a party on Monday followed by caroling to homes in the communi ty. Our mother’s Sunday school class had a By Ruby C. Ledbetter Christmas party in the fellowship building Fri day night with the senior citizens band per forming. Mrs. Corene Hamrick is the teacher. The young married Sunday school class drove to Gastonia Fri day night for a supper and fellowship. Dean Harrill is their teacher. Mr. and Mrs. Ted Owens and family are visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Barney Blanton. They came especially because of the illness of his mother, Mrs. Hethie Scruggs, who is in Crawley Memorial Hospital. Ralph Harris is home . after a few days as a pa tient there. I t •
