For our Buds and Blossoms poem this week, we have se lected "What Is Charm?*’ by Louisa Carroll Thomas. Charm is the measure of at traction’s power To chain the fleeting fancy of an hour And rival all the spell of Beauty’s dower. A subtle grace of heart and mind that flows With tactful sympathy; the sweetest rose. If not the fairest, that the garden grows. A quick responsiveness in word and deed, A dignity and stateliness at need. The will to follow or the art to lead. She to whom this most gracious gift is known. Has life’s great potent factor for her own. And rules alike the cottage and the throne. Tru-Tread Tire Co. U. S. Time flies over us, but leaves its shadow behind.--Nathaniel Hawthorne We’ve mentioned it in the past, but it bears repeating. Don’t jeopardize your child’s life by leaving dangerous drugs, in secticides or other lethal items within his reach. Youngsters are curious by nature, and you need not be re minded of tragic instances when this curiosity has resulted in tragedy. It is not beyond the realm of possibility that not only your own child but neighborhood kids playing in your home might be involved. Admittedly, such accidents haven’t happened frequently here in New Bern, but the rare cases are grim enough to war rant every precaution that a conscientous adult can take. Like most tragedies, accidental poisonings occur when least ex pected. Firearms in the home always pose a danger for you and your loved ones. One of our horrible recollections of childhood was the occasion when a chum of ours--playing with a gun be lieved to be unloaded--blasted a young woman’s arm off. If you consider it necessary to have a weapon handy for pro tection, also consider the fact that thousands of human beings--young and old--are In their graves because someone was criminally negligent. Guns, unfortunately, aren’t the only dangerous objects that bring death to children in the home. Scissors and knives should be kept away from small children, as well as matches. This is easier said than done, but it’s worth the effort. This Emblem Identifies your For more than 33 y.ars.
