The office will prohahly open next week. ' Citizen of the Week Bryant awarded full scholarship Andre Bryant, 18, has been awarded a full scholar ship in basketball to Geor- giaTech University in At lanta, Georgia. The 6’9” star was offered about 32 scholarships, some being from Clemson, Notre Dame and Wake Forest but se lected Georgia Tech be cause of their need for height in the coming season and their interest in him. By his sophomore year, Andre feels he will see plenty of action on the basketball court. Several basketball scouts heard of Andre while he was attending Wake Forest Basketball camp last summer. While there he received the One on One Championship Trophy. While attending West Craven High School he was awarded two One on One Trophies and has been Workers getting the new Highlights office ready for occupancy. The new office is located beside Cannon’s Variety Store on Main Street in Vance boro. Mobile Dental clinic in V anceboro Andre Bryant honored by being selected as a High School All Ameri can in basketball. Andre averaged 12 points per game and had a rebounding average of 10 per game. Keeping a good attitude, ignoring bad things, keep ing one’s head straight and lifting up and pursuing what is good is Andre’s philosophy in life. He parti cipated in only one sport during his senior year be cause he wanted to keep his academic average to a "C’.’ Durinv the summer Andre working at a basketball camp in Knox ville, Tenn. He plans to major in Business Manage ment while at Georgia Tech. Andre is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel C. Bryant of Route 2, New Bern. Dr. Warren and Mrs. Best stand with a happy patient out side the Mobile Dental Clinic presently located at the Vancehoro Elementary School. The Craven County De partment of Health Dental Program is sending a mo bile clinic to the schools in a preventive program. The mobile dental clinic is one of the best equipped mobile units in the state. It sup plies toothbrushes to the students, tests children in the schools who qualify for free dental care, and treats toothaches, the number one cause of absences in school. The people who work with the clinic are: Dr. Warren, who has been with the department for two years graduated from the University of Tenn. at Memphis in Dentistry. He did his undergraduate work at Hendrix College in Arkansas. Mrs. Best of New Bern has been a dental hygenist for six years. She received her training through the Health Deaprtment. Jerry Wirthman is a registered Dental Hygen- tist. Jerry graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The mobile clinic stays at each school for three weeks every two years. The clinic will be working inVance- boro until July 20. Sincfe the program went into ef fect seven years ago there has been a dramatic reduc tion in dental decay among elementary grade children in the past two years. Also there is a Floride Mouthrinse Program in the Jones and Pamlico County schools that helps prevent toothdecay in children. Test have shown the mouthrinse program has cut tooth decay by up to 50% when used on a weekly basis with young children. Craven County Schools do not have this program yet. What’s Inside Dr. Warren and Mrs. Best use up to date equipment in the treatment of dental disease.
