4 1 V Pag* 10. W*st Craven Highlights. March 18.1982 Good vs. Evil Calvin Anderson (Lut of three>part series) Passive rebellion is offering resistance to the authority of God. People refuse to comply to the Word of God and will not submit themselves or yield to the authority of God. Man does not like to offer himself to be used. To fully surrender or yield to God you will not offer any resistance to the Word of God. God would say, I beseech you therefore brethren by my mercy, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy acceptably unto God, which is your reasonable service. Be not conformed to this world but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good and acceptable, and perfect will I have. Sin is unbelief because it makes God a liar. From the beginning and through the years God has proven to man that he was and is the “I AM that I AM.” God created man to serve Him and Him only. Because of the carnal mind, man is not mindful of the law of God. Man has unbelief because he does not want to live up to the Word of God, so they say it does not mean what it says. God sent forth his only begotten Son to the World so the world could be redeemed. Some say “not now”, I will wait until later. They have unbelief, because God said today is the day of salvation. Others say Jesus is not the Son of God and it grieves God because they believe not. To them that believe hath received his testimony and hath set to his seal that God is true. Through unbelief man has not love, and love is of God. “He that loveth not knoweth not God, for God is love.” He that freely receives freely gives. To every born again child of God there is threefold proof of the love God gave. Whosoever believeth that Jesus is Christ is born of God. Our faith is Christ that he is sent of God is personal evidence that we are a child of God and this is inward proof of our belief. Everyone that loveth is born of God and we are to love our fellowman with the love of God. This we are not capable of doing in the flesh and we must let God love man through us - this is outgoing proof. Everyone that doeth righteousness is born of God. We will make a practice of doing right at all times and at all cost - this is outward, proof. They who do these things please God and make him not a liar, because they believed his record. Sin is going pur own way planning our life according to our own will without seeking the will of God. Man wants to go where he wants, and never stops to think if it will please God. The places where Christ will not go, we are not to go. Christ laid a plan for us, and when we are planning anything and leave Jesus out, we are planning wrong. “All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned everyone to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on Him the iniquity of us all.” Isa. 63:6 Christ gave his life and shed his blood for us all. He was oppressed and He was afflicted, yet did not complain. There is only one way, and that is the way of Jesus Christ. The working of sin goes far beyond the commandment of God. Some say live by the New Testament and that is all He requires. When people do live by the New Testament with total commitment, they will strive for it all. Others say just live by the red writing in the Bible. If only they would seek to do that, they would have so much love for Christ, they would strive for it all. What it took to get our sins washed away, it will still take to keep them washed away. That which we vowed to God has to be kept. The things we sacrificed and promised to God will be sin if we fail to keep them. Sin is not sin until we have seen, heard, or felt that it is sin and been proven. When sin has been brought to light it cannot be continued. All unrighteousness is sin and is a folly to deceive you, a force to destroy you and a fact to condemn. If Satan cannot keep you from doing that which is righteous, he will try to get you to go overboard in the good you do. “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Rom. '6:23-2 AMEN. Retirement Myths There is a myth that says there is a kind of retirement shock which leads to mental and physical decline, says Isabelle Buckley, exten sion aging specialist at North Carolina State University. “Who has not heard the story of the man who was forced to retire while at the height of his powers and then didn’t live long because he had nothing to do?” she asks. The fact is that there is no evidence that mental \or physical health deteriorates after retire ment. “When death occurs soon after retirement, usually the person retired because of poor health. In other words, the poor health preceded retire ment,” the specialist explains. In Memory ABBIE FORNES, JR. Mr. Abbie Fornes, Jr., 61, died Friday morning at his home on Route 1, Vanceboro. Overpayments of $264,846.00 in Unemployment Insurance RALEIGH—The N.C. Employment Security Comrnission_ (ESC) recovered $264,846.00 in unemployment insurance overpayment during February 1982 according to figures released today by the commission. Ron. Hawks, supervisor of the Benefit Payment Control unit said, “This recovery represents more than 80 percent of the total overpayments for February, an increase of 61.0 percent over the previous month, and a 49.0 percent increase over recoveries made in February 1981.” The unit investigated 263 persons who have claimed or currently are claiming unemployment insurance benefits. Sixty-four percent of that number, or 163 persons, were found to have been over paid $78,377.00. The commission classified 137 of those cases as fraud and 140 as non-fraud. Fraud cases are classified as such when a claimant is proved to have knowingly made a false statement on a claim which resulted in overpayments. Non-fraud overpayments result generally from unintentional filing errors with which fraudulent intent cannot be associated. During February, 106 persons were tried in state courts for unemployment insurance fraud. All 106 were convicted. Hawks said, “In February approximately 60 of our 100 counties had court activity, and most of it occurred in the larger metropolitan areas.” Becomes CT&T Director TARBORO-Mrs. Betty McCain of Wilson, who for years has been active in state public service, today (March 12) was elected to the board of directors of Carolina Telephone and Telegraph Company.
