Vanceboro presented the board with^ petition of 129 citizens who were opposed to the locating of a Mobile Home Park in the town limits of Vanceboro. The strongest opposition seemed to be that the density of population in such a small area would cause undue strain on the facilities of this small community. After Mayor Jimmy Morris had given all who wished to speak an opportunity to do so, Alton Whitley made the motion that the request be denied. V'' Si m Town Meeting The motion was seconded by Richard Bowers. The vote on the motion was called and it passed unanimously. Other items of business were handled by the board, reading of minutes, approving payment of expenses, handling of minor complaints, and equipment problems. The meeting ended as the board retired to the Mayor’s office in executive session to handle a personnel problem. The Ball Bounces On Left to right: Wendy Adams, Joan Taylor, Tina ' Bryan. The ball was passed off Monday afternoon by the Craven County Commissioners when they made it very clear to the New Bern-Craven County Teacher Delegation that the County Commissioners do not at the present time tell the Board of Education which line items to delete when money is not available to meet their budget. Several teachers, citizens, and businessmen spoke to the Commissioners expressing their concern for the failure of the teachers to receive a supplement in the 1981-82 Board of Education budget. It was noted that teachers were promised they would not lose in the merger of the two school systems (New Bern City and Craven County Schools), but they have lost according to spokesmen. Commissioners were asked to do anything they could to reinstate the supplement of New Bern-Craven County teachers. It was explained by the Commissioners that on May 3 they would receive the Board of Education budget. At that time, the Commissioners have to study the budget in detail and either approve it or send it back to the Board of Education for reduction or deletion of items. This was stated as being the way the teacher supplement was deleted in the 1981-82 budget. The teachers were out in a large number. The court room was completely filled.
