Everyone was welcomed by Linda Chesson, president. A special welcome was given to Mrs. Burness Lancaster and her sister, Emma Katie. Clara Lou Ipock led the worship with scripture taken from Matthew. The topic was “Prayer”. The program was presented by Mrs. Nina Parsons of New Bern. She is Pamlico District Chairperson of the Christian Women’s Fellowship. She talked on several subjects concerning C.W.F. One very interesting subject was “Caring Enough to Confront”, taken from a book on the subject. There ^are conditions at times going on that we don’t know how to handle - we should learn to confront. The Blessing Boxes, which began in 1963, was another topic. The third topic was on “How to Increase Membership”. She said “caring” is a main ingredient plus “second mile giving”. The subject or new theme is “Putting Love First”. Mrs. Parsons’ talk was very inspiring. She was accompanied by Lillian Bright. There was a discussion on dividing into circles. During the business session, the Service Chairman gave a report on services rendered during the month, books read and daily Bible readers. The “New Chair” project was discussed. The C.W.F. benediction was repeated in unison at the conclusion of the meeting. The hostesses for the month were Erma Moore, Jill Campbell, and Connie Broadway. Refreshments were served. West Craven Highlights, May 20,1982, Page 5 Sharing Good News By Dorothy Fillingame The good news from the Word for today comes from Hebrews 12:1-3. “Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus the Author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your mind.” Are we being weighted down today with many kinds of weights: Some of these weights will pull us over into sin and is displeasing to God. They cause us to be drawn away from God and to lose our way. If you are weighted down today with anything that will separate you from God, won’t you cast them aside, so you can be free and able to help lead a lost soul to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ? *** The West Vanceboro Church of God was host for the district fellowship meeting Mon. night. May 10th. Most of the district churches were represented. Our church won the Attendance Banner for the month. The Ladies Auxiliary served hot dogs with all the trimmings, cake, pie, brownies, and different kinds of beverages. Everyone had a good time in the Lord.
