I Extension Librarian, Mary Ann Dclamar with JOAB who will be appearing at the Vanceboro Public Library on July 21. The Vanceboro Public Library will sponsor its annual Summer Reading Game during the month of July. Boys and girls in K-6th grades are eligible to • the game. The reading program registration ns July 1. Just Open a Book, the theme for the 1982 Statewide Summer Reading Game comes from P. K. Mallinan’s book of the same title. JOAB, the frog will be the mascot for the reading game this year. Prizes will be awarded to the person in each grade who has read and reported on the most books during July. A certificate will be awarded to each student who has reported on at least 10 books including 2 travel, 2 biographies, 1 science, 1 history, and 3 of his own choice. Every Wednesday, beginning in July, a special story hour will be held in the library. All children whether or not they are enrolled in the Reading Game may attend. On July 21 at 4:00 p.m. JOAB will visit the Vanceboro Library. Other story hours will include a puppet show, a ventrioloquist act, films, and stories. At the last story hour, on July 28, Mary Ann Delamar, Extension Librarian, will be present to award prizes and certificates at a party in the library. The program has the strong support of Governor James B. Hunt. Jr., who has signed the certificates for participates and volunteers. Superintendent of Public Instruction, Dr. Craig Phillips has sent a letter of endorsement to parents of public school students strongly encouraging active participation. In Memory SARAH MORRIS TRIPP Mrs. Sarah Morris Tripp, 90, died Sunday morning at Craven County Hospital in New Bern. The funeral service was conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel at Vanceboro by Rev. Lonnie Wethering- ton, Sr. and Rev. Lonnie Wetherington, Jr. Burial was in the Juniper Chapel Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Tripp was a native of Craven County and sjg^ most of her life in tNjPvanceboro commun ity. She had attended the Tabernacle Holiness Church in Vanceboro. She is survived by her husband, George W. Tripp; two step-sons: Ezekiel Tripp of Chesa peake, Va., and Calvin Tripp of Rt. 2, Vanceboro; two step-daughters: Mrs. Lottie Smith of Rt. 2, Vanceboro and Mrs. Helen T. Wilson of Rt. 5, New Bern, a sister, Mrs. Eva Wiggins of Green ville; 18 step-grand- children; 18 step great grandchildren; and 2 step great great grandchild ren. NATHAN DELWOOD DIXON Nathan Delwood Dixon, 37, died Saturday morning at Craven County Hospital. Funeral was held Monday at the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel, 4:3b p.m. with Rev. Buddy Jasser and Rev. Hillary Gaskins. Burial was in Kite Family Cemetery near Vanceboro. Surviving are Wife, Marie Hudson Dixon and son, Jonathan Wayne Dixon of the home, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bennie Dixon of Rt. 1, Vanceboro; two sisters: Mrs. Gloria Craft of Winterville, Mrs. Mary Manning of Rt. 1, Vanceboro and one Brother, William Alton Dixon of Rt. 1, Vance boro.
