Pag* 12, Watt Craven HIghllghta, November 25,1982 FORT BARNWELL -HIGHLIGHTS-” LCC Cheerleader Coach KINSTON-Mrs. Ed na S. Denton of Fort Barnwell, cheerleader coach at Lenoir Commu nity College, has an nounced her selections for the 1982-83 Cheerleaders at LCC. The seven- member team includes one alternate, and it has already been drilled for the basketball season that opens at Chapel Hill November 30, according to Athletic Director Pete D. Barnes. The cheerleaders are four sophomores from Lenoir County—Jessie Artis, Tammy Boone, Valeria Hicks and Jennifer Isler, and three freshmen—Jujuan Gray and Janette Koonce of Lenoir County, and Monica Mitchell of Craven County. Since the selections were made last month the team has been active in learning new cheers, pom-pom routines, acrobatics and dance routines to enliven the sports events at LCC. While the team will not travel to Chapel Hill for the opener against UNC Freshmen, November 30, Coach Denton says it will follow the squad to conference and other games most of the basketball season. The cheerleaders are all newcomers to the LCC Team. Some have hac high school experience but all are getting indoctrinated into the college cheerleading routines, Mrs. Denton observed. THERMOSTATS The thermostat on your heating and cooling system determines your home energy needs, says Dr. Glenda Herman, extension housing specialist at North Carolina State University. If one thermostat is used for temperature control, it should be centrally located on an interior wall in the main living room, she adds. Don’t put thermostats near heating ducts, under strong lights or next to a heat source. Keep them away from drafts and outside doors. If your thermostat is off just one degree, it can affect your fuel bill and your purse. Count on the Classifieds to Do the Joli The Bulletin By MRS. B.H. MITCHELL The warm sunny days of the fall were very helpful for late gardens: About a half peck of string beans were picked from a garden in Fort Barnwell. The beans were cooked for dinner and were very delectable when served with the main dish. The first big frost cooked the top of the beans, but the large leaves on the vines covered the young blossoms and tiny beans, so they continued to grow to maturity. It was interesting to see how they grew, even though the top part of the beans were frost bitten: There will be a gospel sing at St. Johns A.M.E.Zion Church in Ft. Barnwell on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. The Highway Q C’s and several other groups will be featured on the program. Mr. Roy Mitchell is the sponsor. Everyone is invited to come out and enjoy the program. Mr. & Mrs. Maurice Cox of New York were at home with Mrs. Nicy Cox for the weekend. rfnSli Happy Nov. 26: Carthene Gurkin John F.
