The Belles of Saint Mary’s May 30,1' Brown, Pratt Elected Heads Of Sigma^s, Mu^s Vaught, Truslow Chosen Vice- Presidents Musette Brown, Accomoe, Va., and Mary Lou “Butch” Pratt, Sumter, S. C., have been elected president of the Sigma and Mu athletic societies, respectively, for the coming year, as was announc ed at the athletic banquet May 21. Logan Vaught, Winston-Salem, and Nellie Truslow, Chestertown, Maryland, are the vice-presidents of the societies. Sigma Team Musette is a member of the Granddaughters’ Club, Y.W.C.A., Letter Club, and on the first teams in basketball and softball. Elected president of the Sigma Pi Alpha and editor of the hand book, Logan is vice-president of the Dramatic Club, a member of the Granddaughters’ Club, Letter Club, Woman’s Auxiliary, and BELLES, BULLETIN and STAGECOACH staffs. Mu Team Serving as president of the Let ter Club this year, “Butch” is a member of the athletic council, the Swimming Club and on the first teams in hockey, basketball and swimming. She was awarded a swimming medal this year. Nellie is a member of the Glee Club, Letter Club, the choir. Dra matic Club, on the first teams in volleyball and softball, and served as vice-president of the junior class this year. She has been elect ed a dance marshal for the 1947- 48 term. 'Merlin Stone Awards Plaque As Ainights^ Meet Virginia Smith Leads Letter Club Holt Juniors Give Picnic For Seniors At Hut Wednesday Frolicking and picnicking at the Hut Wednesday evening, May 28, the juniors on second floor Holt entertained the seniors on their hall at a graduation party. With a piece of cherished bub ble gum and a surprise present for each graduate, the girls en joyed roasting marshmallows, drinking Pepsies, and eating tossed salad and hot dogs. In charge of the party were Vir ginia Smith, Ridley Park, Pa.; Logan Vaught, Winston-Salem; Molly Williams, High Point; Le noir Williams, Dunn; Jacqueline White, Greenshoro; and Lucy Brewer, Oxford. Former President Again Takes Over Virginia Smith, Ridley Park, Pa., was elected president of the Letter Club at the meeting after the athletic banquet May 21. Last year at Saint Mary’s she was president of the Letter Club, a member of the Athletic Coun cil, and vice-president of the Dra matic Club. This year she is a member of the Honor Council, news editor of the BELLES, a member of the French, Political Science and Dramatic clubs. Purpose and Requirements . The Letter Club is the honorary athletic society of Saint Mary’s. To become a member, a girl must make two all-star teams or ac cumulate 100 points, 40 of which are earned by making one all-star team. The purpose of the cluh is to create more sportsmanship, spirit and co-operatioii in ath letics. Members Members of the club this year are Jean Strickland, Wilson; Harriett Barnwell, Columbia, S. Mu’s Defeat Sigma’s to Receive Saint Mary’s Plaque Amid the cheers of the wearers of the Blue and White, the Ath letic Plaque was awarded to the Mu’s by “Merlin Stone” at the Last Tournament of the Knights of the Round Table. With King Arthur (Betty Anne) Cooper as Toastmaster, the Sigmas and Mu’s gathered in the dining hall for a final banquet. The program opened with toasts to Merlin (Dr. Richard) Stone by Sir Tristam (Mary Lou) Pratt, to King Mark (Mrs. W. C.) Guess by Sir Galahad (Virginia) Smith, and to the Duke of Astolat (Miss Anna) Graham by Sir Pereival (Elizabeth) Childs. Following this, the New Lead ers of the Orders of the Blue and Red Knights (Sigma and Mu of ficers) were announced, and the Nobles to be Knighted for various Peats (outstanding athletes) were announced. After the pre sentation of the Three Most Worthy Knights (three outstand ing athletes) and the Pinal Trib ute (presentation of the Athletic Plaque), Taps was sung by the entire group. fft; Orchesis Elect Nancy Gumming Nancy Cumming, Augusta, Ga., has been elected president of Or chesis, dancing club sponsored by Mrs. William C. Guess. Nancy is a member of the soph omore class. Last year at Saint Mary’s she was a member of the Woman’s Auxiliary, the Dramatic club, and the Mu athletic society. This year she is a dance marshal, a circle leader in the VV^oman’s Auxiliary, and a member of Or chesis. Sophomores Enjoy Picnic At Hut Enjoying hot dogs and all the trimmings, members of the sopho more class had tlieir annual picnic at the reci-eation hut on tlie cam pus last Sunday night.
