MARY’S Vol. XXIV, No. 11 RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA April 14, 1961 Marshals for ’62 CHOSEN The marshals for next year were elected on April 6. Serving as Chief-AIarshal is Erwin Parrott from Kinston, North Carolina, who ’"’ill replace Alolly Cooper. Also elected were Rosemary Adair, "Win ston Conner, Jackie Baublitz, Alar- fy Watkins and Brooke Davila. The duties of the marshals in- ^lude taking uj) the offering in chapel, leading chapel lines, acting ^s ushers in the auditorium, and maintaining order in all student gatherings. The new marshals will assume their duties on the third Sunday before commencement. Erwin Parrott, the Chief-AIar- ®aal, has been at St. Alary’s for three years. During her freshman year she was elected dance marshal from her class and has been re- ejected every year. She is an Or- chesis member and was also a Bea con member. Jackie Baublitz and n inston Conner also attended high school at St. Alary’s. Jackie is from Afartinsville, Virginia, and Winston from Charlotte. Niemeyer Takes Over “The Belles” Tast month Ann Niemeyer was elected to replace Carter AIcAlister Editor-in-chief for the 1961-62 publication of “The Belles” of St. f lary’s. Ann, a native of Avondale , tates, Georgia, attended Avon dale High School where she was an active particijiant on both the an- uual and newspaper staffs. At St. * fary’s gj,g jg continuing her ven ture in journalism by being on the staffs of “The Stagecoach” and the Belles”. Among her other ac- J'’ities, she is a Sigma cheerleader, ■“cing (juite versatile, Ann rates uiath and English as her favorite subjects. ^kancy Heath will take over the position of Assistant Editor previ ously occupied by Cleve Fletcher. Aancy, who is from Charlotte, is a uusy student on St. Alary’s campus, ^ue participates in the following activities: Glee Club, Letter Club, dud Dramatics Club. GLASS SONG CONTEST COMING Late in A'lay the Belles will sponsor the annual class song con test. Each class will make up a song to be presented in assembly, and these songs will be judged by several faculty members. The songs are judged on originality and pres entation, and St. Alary’s girls are sometimes very original. It’s a lot of fun, and it will be interesting to find out which class has the best composers and singers. Conner Chairman Of Legislative Body The chairman of the Legislative Body for next year is Winston Conner of Charlotte. It will be Winston’s duty to call and preside over all meetings and record in the master file all changes in the stu dent regulations. In addition, she will discuss all passed petitions with Dr. Stone. FIRE CAPTAIN ELECTED In a recent junior class meeting. Alary Larsen from Leesburg, Flori da, was elected fire captain for the coming year. In this position she will organize and put into effect fire prevention programs. ’62 ASSEMBLY CHAIRMAN Xaniie Chalgren Ghalgren elected Assembly Chairman Nanne Chalgren from Fort Leav enworth, Kansas, was elected As sembly Chairman for 1961-62. Be fore coming to St. Alary’s, Nanne was active in many activities in her high school including National Honor Society, Thespians, and Secretary of Student Council. She was a cheerleader and also par ticipated in several plays as well as an operetta. At St. Alary’s Nanne has been active in the Dramatics Club, choir, and A'.R.C. She is li brarian of the Glee Club and was in the play given before Thanks giving, Sabrina Fair. As Assembly Chairman Nanne’s duties will be as follows: 1. To sub mit to the president of the As sociation the name of the faculty member desired as adviser. 2. To jilan programs for the scheduled week-day assemblies. (A list of these must be submitted to the faculty adviser for approval and must be posted in the President’s ofRce two weeks ahead of assem blies.) 3. To preside over the as semblies. 4. To present to the in coming chairman of assemblies a written report commenting on the value of the year’s program and setting forth suggestions for im provements.
