Show Mid-Season Form To Lose Only Three Matches In First Two Contests The Mars Hill tennis team matched their skill against that of the Newport Tennis club here this afternoon for their second engagement of the current season on home soil. These Lions have been sending the rounded pill across the net with plenty of life this year and the squad is rapidly making its bid for honors. C. J. Ellen and Leonard Carter of last season’s team have taken the lead in playing and have shown especially good form in all of the matches played to date. Freshman material, which makes up the rest of the squad, has readily filled the places left va cant by graduation. Two broth ers, Addison and Edwin Hubbard, have added greatly to the strength of the team. Tom Johnson, ten nis ace from Durham, has also been a main spark plug in Coach Wood’s line up, while Bill Griffin and “Butch” Evans have exhibit ed fine play. Mars Hill’s first match was won with ease from Hiwassee by the count of 7 to 1. The results were: Singles: Johnson vs. Suddath, 6-4, 6-0; A. Hubbard vs. Monger, 6-2, 6-1; E. In their second contest the Lions defeated the Biltmore junior college, 5 to 2, on the ‘Y’ courts of Asheville. Summary: Singles: Sales vs. E. Hubbard, 1-6, 6-3, 6-3; A. Hubbard vs. Young, 6-3, 6-3; Johnson vs. Hearn, 6-1, 6-2; Ellen vs. Ben- zing, 6-0, 6-1 and Griffin vs. Reynolds, 6-1, 6-2. Doubles: Sales and Hearn de feated Ellen and Griffin, 2-6, 6-3, 6-0; A.
