Page 18 Page 19 Page 19 Page 19 Page 20 Within the covers of this literary edition of the Hilltop is a portion of the creative ability which is possessed bv the students of Mars Hill. These selections are by no means all of the material which was turned into the staff for considera tion, but they are what we con sider the cream of the crop. In a sense, the contents reflect the hopes, aspirations, and ideals of each individual mind. Originality and individuality are the two traits which were con sidered carefully. It is the hope of the staff to encourage, through this literary edition, original ex pression and thought and to com pose an entirely original publica tion showing those selections which are believed to be the best. As some of you will recognize, it has been necessary, due to limit ed space, to cut some of the ma terial : this was done with careful consideration so as not to lose the originality of the composition. During the past few weeks much work has been done; it has been the combined effort of the students, English teachers, our staff advisor, and the staff mem bers. In spite of the work which has been required, it has been a pleasure to know that such crea tive ability is possessed by the members of our own student body. The staff wishes to express its thanks to the English teachers for their reading and selections of the material which was submitted to the Hilltop for final considera tion. We also extend our ap preciation to Miss Collie Garner, our advisor, for her assistance; without her this publication would not have been possible. To you, fellow students, thank you for sharing your talents with us. It is our hope that your name attached to a poem, short story, or essay will be an inspiration to you to continue to develop your creative abilities. To those of you whose names do not appear within these covers, do not be discouraged; your efforts may not be in vain. May all of you enjoy reading the selections in this the 1958 Literary Edition of the Hilltop. HILLTOP—PAGE ONE :1 e c 1 ^ _ I r\ . r\f\\ .loinf r
