Following the din ner, the club members who had already func tioned as hosts and hostesses then doubl ed as performers when they presented a var ied program of comedy, pathos and dancing. Harry Schweizer as the emcee (or master of carnival, as he called it) was the perfect image of com posure while the an tics of Edith Ann (Ruth Rohleder) and Hildegard (Maxine Ammons) revolved a- round him in between acts. To add inter national flavor to this event there was a French cavalry song (Harry, the club and the audience), a Ger man flute solo (Ninette Humber ac companied by Susan Dodd), a parody of a Mexican Hat Dance (Maxine Ammons and Ben Liverman), a Ger man song (Sharon Munden and DeWitt Tipton), Eres Td (Cheryl Thomas and Ben Liverman), Guan- tanamera (the Club and the audience), csm NEWS It was then that I realized what we have in our churches now. Even closer to home, what we have here on this campus. This past Thursday night. Miss Baughman spoke at "Sing and Share;" the theme related to a spiri tual renewal that is being sought on the Mars Hill campus. "Instead of us always making our own deci sions , we should re new our personal re lationship with God so that we allow Him to make the decisions. We spend a lot of time in places we should save for Later, giving God priority. If we renewed our trust in Him, our time would be more wisely used." Miss Baughman says she learns more every time whe speaks than do those to whom she speaks. But we all felt sure that God the Tinikling—na tional dance of the Philippines (the Club with audience partici pation) , a Spanish folk song (Betsy Neely, Elaine Adams), a guitar solo (Rick Garcia), a reading of poetry (Mrs. Gorski) and some selections of traditional string band music by the Appalachian Folks (Mrs. Lou Therrell— banjo. Miss Vivian Hartsoe—guitar, Mr. Byard Ray—fiddle). The program chairman was Cheryl Thomas, the guitar accompany- ists were Becky Stonev Rick Garcia and Ruth Rohleder, the other members who partici pated were Rxiben Orengo, Joy Bridges, Bill Walker and Steve Bennett. Thirty establish ments in Asheville and Mars Hill donated door prizes. Dr. Bentley assisted Miss Snelson in giving these out. Dr. Bentley was also a- warded a door prize— a dusty door with a big white bow. The program was be gun by the Club sing ing I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing and ended with a very touching candle lighting ceremony as they sang One Little Candle. had spoken through her to all or us a- bout a campus-wide renewal that could be made reality only if each one of us expe riences a personal renewal. Then God could work through us. The Methodist Church was the scene of an over-night lock- in retreat this past weekend. There were many different reac tions to the retreat, but all seemed to in dicate a time of ei ther personal gain or better acquaintance with the Lord through group sharing. A re treat of this kind seems to be very ef fective because it allows an experience for all Christians, regardless of their level of growth. Rick Slate took a brave group to Arden for roller skating later Saturday after noon. There weren't too many complaints of bruises and the like, so it must have been a successful venture. Eager and word-hun gry Christians have commented on Ferd McCormick's Bible study. We thank the SUPPORT BASKETBALL CAG E» G'DEFEATED by Eric Garner Harrogot, Tenn.— "You just can't pin down one thing that hurt us and caused us to loose," said head basketball coach Jack Lytton as his Lion squad went from a 39-36 half - time lead to a 9 point loss, 75 - 66 'to Lincoln Memorial Uni versity on Monday night, "We were not executing well, get ting the needed re bounds, and we mis sed the easy shots," continued Lytton fol lowing the season o- pener. The Lions were hurt when 6'11" center Carlos Showers got three early fouls in the first half. The Lions were without their rebounding po wer and the forwards had to work extra hard. Sophomore Jimmy Graves grabbed 11 rebounds and scor ed 16 points while Mike Earwood grabbed 6 rebpimds and 3 points. That effort was not good enough to match the power of LMU's John Stallard who grabbed 11 rebounds and scored 19 points, or the efforts of the game's high scorer, Doug Potter, who net-• ted 20 points in the LMU victory. Guard Eddie Taylor was second in scoring for tha Lions with 15 points. Derek Lord for using Ferd's love of God to teach us. It really feels like things are getting un- der-way for us, now. God is giong to show each of us what He has planned for us, and before it's over, Mare Hill will be one body united in God's love. So, I decided that the 18th century is Thomas, the other starting guard, scored 12. The Lions preserved their 3-point half time lead until the 5.22 mark left in the game when center Carlos Showers fouled out. "After that, we‘ were unable to keep their big man outside plus poor shooting and we dropped be hind," stated Lytton. The Lions went from three points ahead to seven points behind within three minutes and never regained the lead. LMU's re cord is now 1-2 while the Lions are 0-1 with the rest of the week off from action. The Lions have two tough games early next week as they o- pen in the Carolines Conference season in Greensboro on Monday night against highly experienced Guilford then on Tuesday night at Elon (predicted No. 1 in the confe rence) before re turning home on Fri day for their first home game. The Lions will be sponsoring the Mars Hill Thanks giving Invitational Tournament which fea tures Lincoln Memo rial against UNC-Wil- mington in the 7:00 game and host Mars Hill against Greens boro College in the second game at 9:00. The winners meet in the 9:00 game on Sa turday night with the consollation game set for 7:00. done, and put away. I like it better right here, right now. Post Script: Ray, congratulations on a job well done with the CSM choir for the President's Convoca tion. Next time, dont make faces at the choir—ok?! How sayw Christians can't have a sense of humor?
