200 Attend County Club Meeting More than 200 attended the all da> session of the Home Demon stration Clubs of Halifax County held at the Roanoke Rapids High School auditorium last Thursday. hoi the |ast two years, among other things, the clubs have been studying clothing and the pro gs am here was called Achieve ment day to show what had been learned over the two year period. Starnes] of the First Methodist Church, j The address of welcome was by Mrs. Wheeler and the response by Miss Anna Belle Bennett. Practically all tihe clubs took part in the clothing paegant. The Hardrawee and Heathsville clubs showed the history of womens clothing from 1825 to 1932. Cal vary and New Hope clubs show ed how to pick winning colors.! Ringwood and Hollister clubs fea-1 to red shoes for beauty and health. Tillery club shewed childrens clothing. Darlington’s act was called line and design. It was in the form of a trial, the defend ants being charged with incorrect dress. Halifax club showed how to dress for any occasion. Dawson; and Spring Hope had an act call ed “Pepping Up The Wardrobe.” j Then came a contest of all the garments used on the program. H. S. Loy and Mrs. George Hayes acted as judges. I .unch was served by the New j ■ Hope Club in the Domestic Science [! rooms. At the afternoon session various committees were appoint ed by Mrs. Stedman. Music and choruses for the day were furnish ed by the Hobgood and Uoseneath ciubs. Mrs. Charles Miller sang, accompanied by Miss Glads Cox Senator Long spoke on several po litical issues cf interet to women. Miss Moss, treasurer, read her re port and there were other com mil,tee reports before sul iau.nnietv of a highly successful meeting. Mrs. J. R. Alford The death angel visited the home of J. R. Alford near Norlina on Sunday, November 20 at 2:30 n. rn. and took av. ay the wife and moth er, Mrs. Sallie L. Alford. She was 05 years of age. Mrs. Alford was a member of the Tlingwood Methodist Church in early child hood, but later jo ned ihc Mb Au burn Christian Church with her husband. She was the mother o'' ten children, five boys and five girls. One daughter preceded her to the grave. Mrs. Alfcrd was buried at Mt Auburn Christian Church at 2:30 o’clock Monday afternoon, Novem ber 21. This being the same day and hour oi her marriage thirty eight years ago. Two sons and a daughter re side in Roanoke Rapids: Charlie and Willis Alford and Miss Fan nie Alford. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Cam-'.
