Local Family Injured In Va. Auto Crash-Up TRAYNHAM FAMILY AND BUGGS -0 Sustain Injuries In Sunday Night Wreck Near Hanover, Va. -—-o Mr. and Mrs. Dave L. Trayn ham and daughter, Catherine, Mr. and Mrs. W. I*. Bugg and W. A. Suitt of Weldon, were injured in a car wreck near Hanover Court house, Va. Sunday night. The others returned to their homes here Monday while Mr Traynham, who suffered a broken nose, returned here Tuesday. Latest reports are that the driv er of the other car is in a serious condition. The local folks returning from Washington to Roanoke Rapids, struck them when they were on say the driver of the other car | the other side of the road and re port that he had just run another car off the road a short time be fore striking them. The following report was given from Weldon, residence of Mr.t 1 and Mrs. Bugg: Eight persons were injured, one seriously, in a head-on automobile collision one mile north of Hanover courthouse in Caroline County, Va., Sunday night. The injured ones were car ried to Memorial and Grace Hos pitals in Richmond by passing motorist. Three of the injured »YOU’U *"1° Con'f tAQ*1L were Weldon residents. They were W. P. Bugg, manager of the Ter minal Hotel here, who received head lacerations; Mrs. W. P. Bugg, multiple cuts and bruises and head injury, aind W. A. Suitt, Terminal Hotel Clerk, who receiv ed cuts and bruises. Riding in the car with Mr. and Mrs. Bugg were D. L. Traynham, who sustained a broken nose, Mrs. Traynham who got several cuts about the face and arms, and Miss Catherine Traynham, /who was injured on her legs. In the other car were Raymond Bowers, 19, Hanover Court House who is reported to be in a serious condition having sustained a bro ken arm and concussion of the, brain, and Miss Louise Backley 16, also of Hanover Court House who probably has broken ribs and several cuts and bruises a bout the body. Bowers and Miss Backley are n the Memorial hospital and the Weldon and Roanoke Rapids peo ple are at Grace. The accident occurred on straight stretch of ;he new '"'ashington highway when the car driven by Bugg vho was returning from Wash ngton collided head-on with the ;ar driven by Bowers. Both cars vere demolished. State Officer Flippen is inves ;igating the case. The collision occurred almos in the center of the hghway. -o Tacky Wedding The Epworth League of Cal vary church wishes to announce the approcing “Tacky Wedding of Elmira and Josephus” to be performed at Calvary school. Fri day night April 12th., 8, o’clock. Prior to the ceremony musical selections and other features ap propriate to the occasion will be given. Admission 10 cents per person, 25 cents per family. Funds for benefit of Church. -o His attempts to rescue the fam ily cat from a tree proved fatal to Nickey Sheheen of Ithaca, N. Y. He fell from the tree and was fa tally injured. WOOD FUNERAL ——o Following an illness of one month, W. W. Wood died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. M. E. Brickell, Sunday morning. Mr. Wood was born in Northampton County, December 24, 1861. He moved to this community 32 years ago and has served as mail car rier for the past 21 years. Surviving the deceased are his widow and six children: Miss Fan nie, Jack, Grover, Rodwell Wood and Mrs. M. E. Brickell, all of Roanoke Rapids, and Mrs. Lillie Etheridge of Rocky Mount, and the following brothers and sisters: M. R. Wood of Miami, Fla., Mrs. Ernest Deloach, H. H. Burnett,. Mrs. Mat Edwards of Boykins, Va., and Mrs. L. L. Maddrey of Franklin, Va., and Mrs. Viola Richardson of Lynhaven, Va. Funeral services were conduc ted Tuesday afternoon from the home of Mrs. M. E. Brickell, by Rev. J. N. Bynum, assisted by Rev. J. J. Boone. Interment was in the local cemetery. -o- . I Joint Hotesses Mi-s. W. H. Babcock, Misses Evelyn and Margie Chapman join tly entertained on Friday Even ing with six tables of bridge at the home of Mrs. Babcock.
