M. R. ‘MIKE’ DUNNAGAN IN RACE Raleigh, June 13. - M. R. (Mike) Dunnagan, Raleigh newspaper cor respondent announces that it is his “present purpose” to become a candidate for the Democratic nom ination for Secretary of State in the primary and election next year. His statement is as follows: “It is my present purpose to ask the Democrats of North Caro lina to nominate and elect me Secretary of State. I have talked over this ambition with party leaders and workers for more than a year. Many of them encourage it and promise their support. I am making ths statement now to pre vent uncertainty and to let my friends and Democrats of the State know of my intention.” Macon Rush Dunnagan is a na- ; tive of Yadkinville, N. C., finish- j ing High school and teaching two years in Yadkin County. He prac tically worked his way through the University o f North Carolina, waiting on table and managing the former University Inn. He was secretary, treasurer and pres ident of the Dialectic Literary So ciety and business manager of “The University Magazine.” Since graduation he has been secretary treasurer of U.N.C. Alumni asso ciations of Forsyth, Mecklenburg and Durham Counties. He started his newspaper work as reporter, later city editor, of the Winston-Salem Journal, later be ing city editor of the Charlotte Observer, managing editor of the Asheville Citizen, manager of the Durham News Bureau, and for sev eral years has been Raleigh cor respondent of several newspapers, including the Roanoke Rapids Her ald. During the last 15 months of Governor A. W. McLean’s admin istration, he was his personal sec retary and was director of publici ty for the State Democratic Execu tive Committee in the 1928 and 1934 campaign. He is a Metho dist and formerly a Kiwanian and member of the Junior Order. One of her first stops was at Hollywood, Calif., to see movie stars in th* -aw. as private, later corporal, in the Gas Defense Division, Chemical Warfare Division, located at Phila delphia, where he published a small weekly detachment newspa per; and is a charter member of Charlotte Post of the American Legion, later belonging to Ashe ville, Durham and Raleigh Posts. ! SOUTH ROSEMARY The baseball game Sunday eve ning between South Rosemary and M. C. Mosely’s junior team of Rosemary was won by the juniors. The score was 25 to 7. The South Rosemary boys didn’t know what they were up against until they got over there Sunday, but are looking for a chance to win it back next Sunday. Lewis was the star player of South Rosemary, fum bling only two balls the whole game. Two base hits were uy Bryant and Griffin. The boys fell down on catching. They couldn’t find one who could hold them up. They tried Barnett, Hudson and Edmondson, the last proving to be the best. Pitchers were Live sey and A. Edmondson. For the Rosemary team Shell pitched the whole game, holding out through nine innings. Batting order for South Rosemary is: Little Red Ed jmondson, catcher; “Buck” Livesey, pitcher; Bryant first base; Hud son second base; A. Edmondson ! third base; Lewis short stop; Grif fin right field; Wall center field; D. Hudson left field. The boys hope to be in better practice next week.
