Simpson l SOFTBALL SUNDAY Rosemary All-Stars will clash with the Naval Base Aviation School Mechanics here Sunday on Dormitory Field in a double-head er. The visitors have one of the fastest softball teams in Norfolk and have a pitcher that has not been scored on in sixty-nine in nings. Russell Deberry and Ernest Lee will handle the pitching duties for Rosemary in the first game and Dick Barber will hurl the sec ond. Moye and Mills will do the catching. Snake Bites Woman Near Roan. Rapids Ethel Turner started to feed her chickens on a Northampton County farm about 6 o’clock Tuesday night. She reached her hand into a bag of corn and jerked it out again. Coiled in the bag of corn was a snake, which struck the woman’s hand. She.was rushed to the Roa noke Rapids Hospital and given treatment for the poison. Her condition today was much improved and she will be able to return home in a few days. County Wide Mass Meet Is Plan Of Clubs A county-wide meeting of city and country folks will be held in Halifax County all day Wednesday, August 25th, in the interest of the Roanoke Rapids Curb Market which is planned for at 8th Street^ according to Home Demonstration Agent Mrs. Hazel Wheeler. The Governor of the State will be invited to attend as the prin cipal speaker and other noted farm and city speakers will be on the program. Barbecues, brunswick stew and other foods and drink will be sold on the grounds. Games and contests are planned for entertain ment. “When City and County Meet For a Curb Market” is the slogan of the Home Demonstration Clubs of the county. The place has not been decided on yet but it must be large enough to handle a crowd of more than a thousand people ex pected. Watch this newspaper for further details. Above is a picture of the new embulance of the W. C. Williams Funeral Home of Roanoke Rapids. This is the first real ambulance in the city and was driven here last week from the factory by Mr. Williams. It will be on display next week at the Lions Exposition in Roanoke Rapids and Mr. Wil liams has also arranged to have on display the first motor funeral car (used for an ambulance) in Roa noke Rapids, showing the great contrast of the early days and today in transportation of the sick • and injured.
