CARL GOERCH LION CLUB SPEAKER HERE Editor The State States He Does Not Choose to Run Carl Goerch, editor and publisher of The State Magazine, and radio commentator of note, was the speaker of the evening at the reg ular meeting of the Lions Club here tonight. In an interesting 15-minute talk, Mr. Goerch explained that he was a New Yorker by birth, but a full fledged North Carolinian by choice, and held his audience spell-bound with a few brief accounts of vari ous experiences in the Old North State. Incidentally, Mr. Goerch exploded the possible theory that he would be a candidate for Governor in the 1940 primary. He explained that altho he covered many miles over the State week after week, his trav els were occasioned by his activi ' ties as the publisher of a news magazine of state-wide interest, and that "he did not choose to run.” Earlier in the afternoon, Mr. Goerch appeared on the program at the Enfield Lions Club Cotton and Peanut Festival, where Gov ernor Hoey, Congressmen Kerr and Hancock, Secretary of Agriculture W. This medi cine , (pronounced “Card-u-i”) has been used and recommended^. by women for many, many years. I'fnd out whether it will help you by giving it a fair trial. Storm Sewer Project On The Avenue What may be the last WPA proj ect for a long time, so far as Roa noke Rapids is concerned, will be the laying of storm sewer on Roa noke Avenue between 3rd and 4th Streets, this being the last block on the Avenue without storm sewers. Th's work must be completed by December 1st which marks the of ficial end of WPA labor. 660 feet of fifteen inch pipe will be laid in the block, which calls for 550 feet of new pipe as there is over 100 feet of storm sewer pipe already in the block. Engineer Christie was on the job this week. The work on a similar project near the Junction is just about completed and the labor will be transferred to the new project.
