51,117 IS TOTAL OF RED CROSS ROLL CALL 1937 DRIVE A total of $1,117.00 was reported today by Roll Call chairman F. C. Williams, which was $117 over the thousand dollar quota set for the 1937 Red Cross Roll Call of the Roanoke Rapids Chap ter. This year’s drive was also one hundred dol lars more than the amount of last year’s Roll Call. Roanoke Mill No. 2 with Major Bill Hodges in charge led all teams in passing its quota which was set at $100. Roanoke No. 2 raised $172.30. R. Teacher Is Buried Mrs. Mamie Olivia Garris, moth er of Miss Thelma Garris, Roa noke Rapids’ teacher, died at 1 a. m. Saturday in the Roanoke Rap ids Hospital. Funeral services were held Sunday at Sharon Methodist Church by the Rev. L. A. Watts with interment in the church cem etery. She is survived by her husband, Walter R. Garris of Margaretts ville, one daughter, Thelma, two sons, Garland S. of Troy and Th03. Garris of Raleigh, her mother, Mrs. George W. Smith of Lemon Springs and four sisters, Mrs. A. A. F. Sea well of Raleigh, Mrs. Hugh Palmer and Mrs. Tom Gunn of Sanford, and Mrs. Leta Jeffrys of Harts ville, S. C., and a brother, H. H. Smith of Clinton. Mrs. Garris was born in Moore County August 7th, 1880, the daughter of Sarah Buie and George W. Smith. A large crowd attended the fu neral, among those from out of town being her brother in law, A. A. F. Seawell, Attorney General of North Carolina. R. B. Purdy and H. W. Taylor attended the funeral of Dr. Purdy at Ebony, Va. Tuesday. Misses Vivian, Leona and Phyl lis Kirkland of Seaboard were vis itors in the city Wednesday. Mrs. Wade Marks spent Wed nesday in Raleigh, shopping. Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Allsbrook were guests of Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Norvell in Seaboard Sunday. Jimmie McGee of Carolina spent the Thanksgiving holidays here with relatives. Walter Crowder of Blackstone, Va. spent Thanksgiving Day in the home of Mr. and Mrs. M. D. Col lier. Mr. and Mrs. Everett Page spent the week-end in Nashville. Miss Nell Clary of Fredericks burg, Va. was the week-end guest of her sister, Mrs. Sam Taylor. Miss Elizabeth Overton spent the Thanksgiving holidays at her home in Greenville.
