Greenville Beats Jax 6-5 Monday Roanoke Rapids High School Jackets were defeated by Greenville in a close and thrill-packed, eleven inning baseball game, Monday, May 15, at Simmons Park by a 6 to 5 score. Greenville scored the first two runs of the game in the third in ning after a fumbled catch at first by Stewart, which put Wilson on. A single by Clark sent Wilson to third. Another single, by Taylor, brought Wilson ar.d Clark home. Riggins started the action in the third inning by getting a double his first trip to the plate, and scor ing later on an error in left field. Two more successive hits, for Greenville, in the fourth by Regis ter and Babcock, a walk, and an error by shortstop Riggins, sent two men around the diamond to make the score 4 to 1. After two singles in the fourth by Howell and Buffaloe, Riggins poled one out for three sacks and drove in two runs for the Jax. A single by Byrd and one by Wright, the next inning, sent Byrd in to tie the score at four all. In the seventh, after getting a single and stealing second, Mose 1> scored on Stewart’s single to giviS the Jackets a one run lead. In the next inning, Stafford of Greenville, got on after a bad throw from short; another wild throw from center field advanced him to second. From there he tal lied on a single by Register, to score the last tying run. The home boys’ last threat and chance to score came in the elev enth inning after L. H. Taylor, pinch hitting for Buffaloe, rifled out a single and then stole second Reynolds whiffed; Mills popped to short, and Byrd popped to third to end the threat. Simms, who relieved Buffaloe in the tenth, allowed Babcock to get a single in the eleventh. Following Babcock’s single was one by Wilson ' vhieh drove Babcock in to make final score 6 to 5. or Greenville Taylor hurled with Tore! catching. Wright caught the eleven innings tor the Jackets while Buffaloe pitched nine innings and Simms two. Jerry Brown went in for Waters in the eighth. Leading the Greenville club was Babcock with three for four, while Riggins paced the home team with two for four. The Goldsboro team held the Jackets 4 to 0 until the 3rd inning, The Jax pushed one run in in the 3rd and one in the fifth, to make the score 4 to 2. Six errors and one walk brought in 7 more runs for Goldsboro in the sixth. In the ninth Mosely singled over shortstop. Byrd got a single. A cree pinch-hit for Burton and got on by an error. Stewart forced a run to third. With two on base Wright slugged a homer over left field fence. Byrd flew out to the left field and Howell flew out to center field to end the rally. PXA.
