Li* V MEN BETWEEN 21 AND 36 REGISTER IN SERVICE ACT • ·■» au maie persons, except men roiniecieu wim the United States Army, Navy, or Marines, or branches thereof, between the ages of 21 and 36, will be required to register under the Selective Service and Training Act of 1940 on October 16, 1940. Registration places will be regular polling precincts for the county, state, and national elec tions (changes have been made at Littleton and Hollister precincts). The hours of registration will be from 7 a.m. until 9 p.m. Help Wanted Clerical help is needed for the job of registering the approxi mately 6,000 men between the ages of 21 and 36 in Halifax County next Wednesday, Octo ber 16. Kelly Jenkins, Chairman of the County Board of Elections which is in charge of the regis trations, said today that at least fifty persons were needed in this city alone for the big job on October 16. He stated that he would like to ask for volunteers through the press. Those who are willing and able to serve in this task should communicate with Mr. Jenkins by telephone, letter, or go to see him in person. If the volunteer writes, he or she should give name, age, and address. Following are rules governing ir regular registration: 1. A man a broad or on the high seas on the day of registration must register within five days after reaching home. 2. A person sick may (a) secure a person to register for him if he is not in hospital; (b) if too sick to register, he may obtain spe cial permission to register later by presenting doctor's certificate; (c) Special deputies will be sent to hospitals to register patients there (T. J. Alford has been appointed for the local hospital). 3. If ab sent from his home on registration day, a man may register at the most convenient registration place. His card will be sent to the local board. 4. Those in schools, colleges, etc., will come under provision 3 above. 5.
