NEXT WEEK AT ROANOKE RAPIDS THEATRES I ___ i "BACK STREET" IS IMPERIAL THEATRE OFFERING SUNDAY - sfc At the Imperial Theatre Sun day Margaret Sullavan and Charles Boyer will be seen in "Back Street”, a “remake” of the picture starring other principals a few years ago. It’s a love story in which Boyer, who rated right at the top among the Hollywood act ors with the most sex appeal, struts his stuff. Margaret Sulla van is the lady in the case, and while the course of true love does n’t run quite smooth for them as it would have if conventions of the day had been observed, they manage to make themselves be lieve L’amour is worth any price one has to pay. * * * “The Great American Broad cast”, which will be at the Im perial on Monday and Tuesday of next week, is reviewed on the opposiite page. It stars Alice Faye, Jack Oakie and John Payne in a musical strong enough to give the cast opportunity to do some acting. * * * Wednesday the Imperial offers Richard Arlen and Andy Devine in “A Dangerous Game”, which is composed largely of slapstick ex citement. It’s a satirical yarn nnkine' fun at the eerie tvne of detective-murder mystery, and the director apparently concentrated on providing as much general noise and excitement as could be en gendered from a sanitarium for the seemingly insane, a man ob viously under the influence of drugs, another with a satchel con taining an enormous sum in cash, a murder and a whole set of ut terly ridiculous croos—all after the money. Arlen emerges as an insurance detective and Devine as a masculine nurse in the sani tarium, as Arlen’s assistant. * * * “The Big Store” will be at the Imperial on Thursday and Fri day. The Marx Brothers romp through the film with their usual hilarious nonsence, and Tony Mar tin takes care of the romantic in terest—and singing. “The Big Store” is a big surprise in store for local theatre-goers who like the entertainment screamingly fun ny, and full of “impossible" sit uations. * * * Ellen Drew and Charles Ruggles come to the Imperal on Saturday, June 28, in “Parson of Panamint”. The picture is a whimsical yarn with Charles Ruggles in the lead ing role. It’s entertainment for the whole family, and Ruggles is ably supported by Miss Drew. An added attraction will be “White Eagle”. The annual Home Security Life Insurance Company Conven tion is being held today through Sunday of this week at Myrtle Beach, S. C.
