I JEI .. Soldier Under Bond Charged With Car Theft Vernon E. Stairs, soldier form erly attached to Mitchell Field, Long Island, was fined and made to pay C. T. Sumner for gasoline and oil he received at Sumner’s filling station at Jackson and then attempted to flee the county with out paying the bill when given a preliminary hearing before Mag istrate J. H. Boone. The soldier drove up to the fill ing station and ordered a tank full j, of gasoline and two quarts of oil, and when Sumner had finished servicing the car the young man j asked for two packs of cigarettes. 1 When the filling station attendant ( went after the cigarettes, Stairs drove off. < Sheriff J. C. Stephenson was no tified and gave chase. The soldier drove towards Conway, turned a- ( round and went back through j Jackson. Me was stopped on the i Jackson-Gafysburg highway near : Longview, carried back to Jackson ^ and jailed. It was found upon investigation i that the automobile the soldier was driving had been stolen in New York, and Stairs was turned over to an FBI agent and placed under $500 bond for stealing the car which he was driving. Old North State In Northampton Receives $300 Contributions to the Old North State Fund drive in Northampton County last week amounted to ap proximately $300, Chairman Buxton Midyette, Jackson attorney, an nounced today.
