C., don’t be afraid when Military Police stop you at the outpost through which you en ter Fort Jackson. The Military Police are there to help you and are under orders to treat you with every courtesy and to answer any questions you might want to ask. Each “MP” has been thoroughly instructed in how to direct visitors to find soldiers or where their unit is located. If you are not acquaint ed with ary particular soldier but just want to drive over this—the nation’s sixth largest Army Post— the MPs can give you an interest ing route to follow. Further, if you enter Fort Jack son by Outpost No. One from Highway No. 76, you will find the Outpost Building a modernistic af fair offering rest room accomoda tions for visitors and a lounge furnished with leather upholstered furniture. When you reach an outpost go ing into Fort Jackson, you will be stopped and asked if you are a vi sitor. xf you are, you will be giv en a yellow and black card which has on one side “Visitor, Fort Jack son, S. C.” and a registered num ber; on the other side are a list of traffic regulations and instructions. Paste the card on your windshield. These regulations mostly deal with civilian traffic vs. military traffic, cautioning you not to break through military convoys on the post, etc. In driving over Fort Jackson you will no doubt have many questions concerning the 2,000 permanent buildings and over 6,000 winterized tent frames built here in the last 12 months. For answer to your questions ask any “MP’ on it—to get accurate answers. It is the du ty of these men to answer any and all questions by visitors and to as sist them in every way. When you leave the Post you will be stopped at which ever out post you pass. Here the MPs will take back your visitors card and with a smart salute, bid you an Army farewell.
