IMPERIAL THEATRE SHOWS "NICE GIRL" ON OPENING DATE *!•_ Reopening of the Imperial Thea tre, which has been closed for sev eral weeks for remodeling and re decorating, on Sunday will be marked by the showing of ‘ Nice Girl”. Deanna Durbin and Fran chot Tone are featured in the pic ture, which is about the love of a maid for a man — and the trials and tribulations of a first love which does not run too smoothly. ****** “Dive Bomber”, which is review ed on the opposite page, will be shown at the Imperial on Monday and Tuesday of next week. ****** “Men of the Timberland” is to be shown at the Imperial on Wed nesday of next week, and it is a fast moving action picture starring Richard Arlen and Andy Devine. The setting is laid in the North Woods logging camps where a criminal is attempting a gigantic lumber theft and denuding, illegal ly, a forest. “Dick”, a ranger, while investiga ting irregularities in timber cutting permits, uncovers a gigantic theft plot, and in the process of attempt ing to find the criminals several rangers are killed. Joining forces with “Andy”, the leader of the loggers who is unaware of the criminal operations, the ranger solves the crime. On the stage at the Imperial “Greenwich Village Gambols” is scheduled. ****** On Thursday and Friday of next week “Sis Hopkins” comes to the Imperial, with Judy Canova and Bob Crosby. There is a lot of real entertainment in the production, which is a field day for Judy Cano va whose picture it is, lock, stock and barrel. Too, there is person able Bob Crosby with his band and the harmonious Bobcats. Judy is taken by her wealthy un cle to live in his menage where she is sandpaper to his snooty wife and daughter. Later goes to college, and, at the dictatorial com mand of the aunt to get rid of Judy before she shatters the fami ly’s social position, off she’s sent to the same seat of learning. Her hillbilly manner and dress make her the scapegoat of her fellow femme students, but her genuine ness and performing talents win over the whole school. The role of Judy’s cousin is played by at tractive Susan Hayward, ****** On Saturday of next week the Imperial offers Charles Starrett in “Thunder Over The Prairies”. Add ed attraction will be “The Spider Returns.” Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Hawthorne, Mrs. Nora Lee Armstrong, Mrs. J. D. Bailey, Mrs. Lucy Avens, Miss Nora Wright, and Troy Crouch spent the week-end at Ocean View, Va. The Rev. and Mrs. B. E. Taylor and son, Howard, of Sumter, S. C., visited friends in town last week. Emmitt Matthews, Jr., has re turned from Riverside Military A cademy, Gainsville, Ga., where he has been in summer camp. Miss Nancy Wolhar has return ed from a frip to White Horse Ranch, Weavertown, N. Y. and At lantic City, New Jersey. Mrs. W. A. Wolhar and Miss Teresa Wolhar spent last week in Wilmington, Del. and Atlantic City, N. J Mesdamcs A. J. Lassiter, Dewey Hursey, J. M. Mrs. Max Frank, who has been ill in a hospital in Wilson, is im proving. Troy Parrish of Camp Bragg spent the week-end here.
