A big crowd packed the Recroa t on Hall last Saturday night to attend the weekly square dance. J ive prizes were given away. Two t xses of Tinys by Dr. Pepper Bot i ing Co., six dozen do-nuts by the new Do-Nut Shop, one bag of filnur l»y Thompson Grocery Co., and a turkey by the Recreation { ;ilb. A ticket to the square dance entitles you to a chance on the prizes that are given away every Saturday night at II p.m. —o— ‘More and more prizes will be oven away each Saturday night from now until Christmas. The ranees are rapidly gaining in pop ularity. Fine music by the “Caro lina Troubadours", a real square dance band with Wyatt Cullom as director, and a real figure caller is lesponsible in a large measure for the success of the dancers. Dance Chairman Eugene Blowe is doing bang-up job in building up the i iterest. The dances start each Saturday night at 8:30 p.m. and c id at midnight. —o—• And thinking of a lot of kids in .11 parts of the world who won't 1 innv Claus at all. it re- 1 winds us: THE KID ‘ \s Christmas fills his little cup with Toy, from ear to ear he grins. Vow. when he hangs both stock ings up, p> only wishes he were twins”. —o— And from my corner it would vem like a darn good idea for tile :ty civic organizations to remem ber that we have a lot of boys •om tiiis town, not only selectees, i ut boys who have enlisted in the Army and Navy, away from home. A committee properly organized toidd easily find out how many nd also their address. It’s almost Christinas. A small present from jour home town, even if it’s only a card, would mean a lot. It will probably be the last Christinas a tit of them will see. They are all .-.-.way from home doing their “bit". The least thing we can do is re member them. it surprises me that such a movement has not been started! To be lnisj- proli xly. Oh! Well! -—o - Game rooms are now open at the Recreation Club for boys from 12 to 15. Another group from 16 to 25. And another room for the older men from 25 up. Games for the various groups are in the l ooms. Collins Pridgen is chairman of the house committee while Frank Flverette is acting as counsellor for the younger group. The hours are 7 till 9. -—o— Members who desire to play ping I«ong can use the ping pong room oil Mondays Tuesday and Thurs days from 7 till 9:30 p.m. The ping pong entry in the city league will practice each day from 3 till t; p.m. Chet Simms, “Sea Cow" Simms, Frank Buck, “I’ig” Riggau, Alfred Hall and “Lefty” Lee are the members of the ping pong team, so far undefeated in tiie city league. —o - A committee is planning to dec orate the club with all Christmas trimmings for the holidays. A big Christmas round dance for club members is planned if there is e uough interest. Santa Claus is al most here! —o— Doi>ey Dan paused for a few minutes in front of Rosemary I Drug Co. to look over the prizes in file children’s eontest, and stutter ed out the following: “Well! Here’s file final blast of the 1941 season: S.M.U. over Rice, Miami over V.M. IP> Texas over Oregon, Texas A.M. over Washington State, Miss. State over San Franciseo, S. Cal. over U.C.L.A., Arizona over Utah, and I’m glad the bowls are filled—in the Rose, Dube-Oregon State. Su gar—Missouri - Fordham; Cotton, Al.a-Texas A. & M.—Orange, T.C.U. Ga. I gotta date Jan 1st, with La mour on the coast.” —o—■ Pickups N’ Putouts: Santa Claus will probably zoom in on a bomber this Christmas watch for our letters to Santa Claus next week—for the third straight year Roseary Rec. will send holly, mistletoe, and running cedar to Kenosha, Wis. for the Simmons Co. banquet- -David O. R. Fogwell, recreational director of Simmons, handles the banquet Scott Benon was hard hit this sea son—with both of his' old schools taking it on the chin—Guilford and Carolina—Rosemary will tee off against Patterson in setback after Christmas—“Gentleman Jeff” Mat thews is now out of the Army send a Christmas box to the boys!
