MEETING OF SCOUT COUNCIL The annual meeting of Boy Scout leaders of the East Caro lina Council will be held tomorrow, December 12, at Atlantic Christian College, Wilson. During the day, said Naitonal Representative Howard Pruden of this city, there will be courses of instruction in Scout Work for those attending. At 7:30 tomorrow night the an nual banquet will be held in the dining hall of the college, with W. A. Dobson, Regional Director, as the principal speaker. There are about 75 men connect ed with the Halifax District of the East Carolina Council, and all are urged to attend the annual meet ing. Negro Hurt In Accident At Sawmill Robert Davis, 32, was injured while working at a sawmill Fri day when a log rolled off a pile and fell on his back. The Negro, whose home is at Jackson, was brought to the local hospital for treatment. Attaches at the hospital said his back was painfully injured, but not broken. Aurelian High Class Plans Play “Where’s Grandma?”, a three act comedy, has been selected for the annual production by the se nior class of the Aurelian Springs high school. It wi>’ be presented in the school auditorium on Thursday night, December 18, at 8 o’clock. The following seniors have been selected for the cast: Sallie Ray Bowers, Janice Bellamy, Ellen Warren, Hazel Everette, Margaret Qftalls, Gladys Hawkins, Julian Dickens, Harold Ray Sullivan, and Walter Brewer. BABIES Among babies born at the local hospital during the past few days were the following: a boy to Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Dow of Weldon, November 30; a boy to Mr. and Mrs. S. E. Perdue of Roanoke Rap ids, November 30; a girl to Mr. and Mrs. J. J. of Gaston, Decem ber 30. PATIENTS Out-of-town patients at the Roa noke Rapids Hospital last week in cluded: R. N. Martin, Conway; Mrs. Paddy Roolcer, Ma con; Mrs. Peyton Randolph, En field; and Mrs. R. W. Thompson, Garysburg. Young Boy Hurt When Hit By Cor Gene Rogers, 4-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Major L. Rogers of 215 Hamilton Street here, was slightly injured in an automobile accident last Saturday. It was reported that he was struck by an automobile operated by a Negro, and the child’s head and face were scratched and bruis ed. It is understood that the ac cident was unavoidable, and no charges have been brought a gainst the driver of the car. Attend Meet School Masters At Scot!cjnd Neck Superintendent C. W. Davis and a group of other faculty members attended the December meeting of the Schoolmasters’ Club at Scotland Neck Monday night. Among the other delegates were Misses Mary Lowder, Elizabeth Tait, Margaret Toler, Vernie Ed dins, Maxine Garner, Evelyn Till man, J. W. Talley and Morris Clary. The January meeting of the Club will be held at Woodland, and the February meeting at Chowan College. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Mitchell and children of Louisburg spent Sun day as guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ju lian Glover. Rotary Changes Time Of Meeting — Plans Dance At a meeting of the local Rotary Club last week it was de cided to change the hour place of meeting to the new Rosemary Cafe from 12:00 noon until 1 o’clock on the same day each week. The club has been meeting on Tuesday nights at 7:30 o’clock, and the change was effective beginning on Tuesday of this week, which was December 9. A committee was appointed at the meeting to arrange for a big dance in the new Armory during the Christmas holidays. The com mittee is composed of L. G. Har rison, Ike Rochelle and Willis Murphy, and is trying to secure a noted band as a special attraction. Proceeds from the dance will go to furnish a recreational room for Roanoke Rapids boys in the army at Fort Jackson, S. C. Elaborate plans are being made for the dance, which is expected to be the biggest ever held in Roa noke Rapids.
