RECORDER'S COURT HELD ON TUESDAY K. B. Blocker and Eddie Gib son, both white, of Roanoke Rap ids, were found not guilty of pos session and manufacturing liquor. Leander Bryant, colored of Scot land Neck, charged with non-sup port nol pros with leave. H. E. Blake, colored of Lewis ton, plead guilty driving without driving license and was fined $10. Op and costs. Mitzi Cheek, colored of Roanoke Rapids, was found guilty of pos session and sale of liquor and was given 3 months jail to be suspend ed on payment of a fine of $20 and costs and on condition she violates no criminal statute for two years. W. C. Perry, white of Scotland Neck, plead guilty of speeding and prayer for judgment continued up on payment of costs. James C. Lynch, white of Hob good, plead guilty of driving with out license and judgment is su spenaea on payment oi costs. Cary Williams and Clecy Duke, white, were charged with manu facturing liquor Duke found not guilty—Williams was given 12 months roads suspended on pay ment of a fine of $125.00 and costs and that he appear the first Tues day of each month for two years and show good behavior. Dave Bell, colored of Enfield plead guilty to driving while drunk and was fined $100.00 and costs. License revoked for 12 months. Clayton Morris, white of Enfield plead guilty to driving while drunk and was fined $100.00 and costs. Licenses revoked for 12 months. McKinley Edmonds and Harvey Wiggins, colored of Scotland Neck plead guilty to assault with a deadly weapon and were given 8 months road sentence each to be suspended upon payment of a fine of $35 and half the costs each and good behavior for two years. P. T. Neathery, white of Halifax was found not guilty driving while under the influence of liquor. James Vines, colored of Scot land Neck was found guilty of driv irtg while drunk, was fined $50 and costs and $50 for use of Mrs. P. L. Allsbrook. License revoked for 12 months. G. J. Elkins, white of Scotland Neck plead guilty of driving while drunk and was fined $100 and costs. License revoked for 12 months. Jake Whitaker, colored of En field plead guilty to indecent ex posure and was given 8 months road sentence. J. F. Phillips, white of Cary, was found guilty of speeding and prayer for judgment continued on payment of the costs. Roosevelt Wilson colored of Scotland Neck plead guilty driving while drunk and after license had been revoked on Dec. 28, 1943. Fine $150.00 and costs and license revoked for 12 months in addition to revocation of Dec. 28, 1943. Ocie Silver, colored of Enfield plead guilty of larceny and was given four months roads. Jesse Simms, colored of Little ton, charged with larceny nol pros with leave. James Arrington, colored charg ed with assault on female nol pros with leave. Robert Lee Cameron, white, plead guilty to reckless driving and was fined $15 and costs. License revoked for 12 months. John Harvey, colored of Enfield plead guilty while drunk and was fined $50 and costs. License re voked for 12 months. Howard H. Erwin, white of Roanoke Rapids plead guilty to speeding and prayer for judgment continued on payment of costs. Jordan Lassiter, white of Lewis ton plead guilty driving while drunk and was fined $50 and costs. License revoked for 12 months. Thomas Barkley, white of Roan oke Rapids, plead guilty of driv ing while drunk, and was given 4 months roads. Eddie Jones, colored of Roanoke Rapids plead guilty to assault on a female and was given 4 months jail. W. D. Conwall, white of Roan oke Rapids, was found guilty of driving while drunk and reckless driving and was given five months roads. James Britt, colored of Halifax, plead guilty driving while drunk and was fined $50 and costs. Li cense revoked for 12 months. V. E. Joyner and Waddell Fields, colored of Hobgood charged with selling homebrew — Joyner found not guilty — Fields guilty and prayer for judgment continued on payment of the costs and good be havior for two years. Henry Williams, colored of En field was found not guilty of hit and-run. Albert Pridgen, white of Wilson, charged with driving while drunk nol pros with leave. Taylor Bryant of Norlina plead guilty to reckless driving and was fined $15 and costs. Betty V. Pierce, white of Roan oke Rapids plead guilty to "speed ing and prayer for judgment con tinued on payment of the costs. Garden Club Will Meet On Monday The Sunnyside Garden Club of Roanoke Rapids will meet next Monday afternoon at 3 o’clock at the home of Mrs. C. W. Adams, Roanoke Avenue, it was announced today. T. R. Wilson’s Entertain On Thursday evening Mr. and Mrs. T. R. Wilson entertained with two tables of bridge at their home on Monroe Street. Mrs. Ray Stephenson was found to hold high score for the ladies and Morrison Moose held high for the gentle men. Those making up the twc tables were: Mesdames, Raj Stephenson, Morrison Moose, T. O Wilson and T. R. Wilson; Messrs Ray Stephenson, Morrison Moose, E. H. Graves and T. R. Wilson. 16th Birthday Party Billie Vincent, son of Mr. anc Mrs. W. A. Vincent celebrated his 16th birthday at his home, Tues day, February 8. Those winning pribes were: Doris Ingram, How ard Hubbard and E. T. Ferguson Guests were: Misses Alice Rook Marie Hitchens, Katherine Burnet te, Effie Woodruff, Doris Ingram Frances Wrenn, Millie Moody, Clif ton Massey, Jr., Howard Hobbs Carolee Allen, E. T. Ferguson, Ry land Show, Breedlove Show, Wilej Coker and Aubrey Baird. ENFIELD MAN IS ELECTRICAL CO. INSPECTOR The regular monthly meeting of the Halifax County Board of Com missioners was held January 7 with the following members pres ent: J. W. Wrenn, M. W. Per ry, W. J. Collier, D. G. Dickens, and G. H. Johnson. The minutes for meeting Jan. 3, 1944 and Special meeting Jan. 13, 1944, iwere read and approved. On motion of Mr. Dickens, se conded by Mr. Perry and unani mously carried, W. T. Neville of Enfield was appointed Electrical Inspector for the County. The fee for each inspection is to be $1.50 plus 5c per mile travel allowance. This fee is to be paid by the per son having the inspection made. The appointment was made on provision that Mr. Neville pass his state examination for electrical inspectors. Upon motion by Mr. Johnson, seconded by Mr. Perry, the tax collector was instructed to charge penalities on delinquent taxes as directed by State law. It was ordered that the period for listing taxes for 1944 be ex tended through the month of Feb. J. B. Hall, Supt. of Welfare Board made his report and same was approved. ; Bids on County home tilmber were opened at noon as ac Iver tised. There were two bids, J. S. t * Turner and Sons, $7637.50 and Mit chell Lumber Co. $6025.00.) On motion of Mr. Perry seconded by Mr. Dickens and carried, Jf. S. Sewell Wins His Wings <if Second Lieutenant George T. Sewell, §on of Mr. and Mrs. George A. Sewell, of this city, was graduated recently from the AAF Training Command advanced fly ing school at Pampa Arniy Air £ Field, Pampa, Texas, and was giv en his silver pilot’s wings.
