Peggy Ann Moves Info New Store In 1936 Arthur Schwartz came to Roanoke Rapids and opened the Peggy Ann Shop, a store featuring women’s ready-to-wear. He began business at 1014 Roanoke Avenue. That was nine years ago. Making friends and customers by the hundreds Schwartz built up a nice business. But he was not sat isfied with just that. He wanted to give Roanoke Rapids a store for Women that would be a credit to a metropolitan city. So, when the building sites on which formerly stood the old Smith Hotel, were put up for sale, Mr. Schwartz went about the business of buying one of them. The other two were bought by Jack Earman of the Western Auto Store and “Bill” Proctor, owner of Proctor’s The lease on the building in which Mr. Schwartz operated his business expired and he had to have some place to move. So he got his per mit to build his new store—an out standing modern and attractive place. Beautiful fixtures and light ing effects were installed and new goods bought. About two weeks ago Schwartz moved his Peggy Ann Shop into its new quarters at 1005 Roanoke Avenue, and the formal opening was a "grand success,” ac cording to him. As soon as war conditions per mit, it is said that Mr. Earman and Mr. Proctor are also going to build modern business houses on the oth er two sites. When this is accom plished the "unsightly” corner will become one of the bright spots in the city. The Peggy Ann features a nice line of women’s wearing apparel at popular prices. It has an excel lent sales personnel, polite and courteous and always happy to have people “drop in” and visit whether flhey buy or not. Fixtures in the new store were by Acme of Richmond, the glass work by Binswanger, also of Rich mond. Signs were by Joe Kidd of this city and the firm of Fred For est & Company of Roanoke Rapids was the contractor and designer of the building. TOWN TALK Dr. and Mrs. J. A. Hailman of Martinsburg, VS*.
