February 14,1950 High Life Page Five ^^Blue Shorts” By Barbara Moffitt Basketliall Much progress and hard work has been shown recently in bas ketball. Before examinations Greensboro High played Reynolds High, and Greensboro won with a score of 25- 23 in the last thirty seconds of the game. Tharon Sewell (had a high score of 17 points, while Elva Slate, a sophomore, also played well on the Varsity. January 31 was the date of the Greensboro-High Point game. High Point, won with a score of 39-27. while at the half the score was 25-9 High Point’s favor. This game was broadcast from the school in High Point. The Varsity team consists of: El ya Slate, Tharon Sewell, Wilma Swiggeitt, forwards, and Anne All- red, Becky Pappas, and Marie Si^se- more, guards, all of whom are good players. Other players were Bar bara Mclver, Judy Elkins, Carole Williams, Jan Richmond, Rita Bum garner, and Barbara Parker who are all experiencei hands at the game of basketball. Many of the shots were from a distance, by Tharon Seavell, while Elva Slate played a good game in the second half. The scores for the game of the Junior Varsity were: Reynolds 18, Greensboro 4; High Point 14, Greensboro 14. Other games played w’ere Win ston there on February 10, and High Point here on February 14, Valentine’s Day. Skating Another well-liked sport during this season is skating. The Greens- Ix)ro Roller Club of the Greensboro Roller Rink is well under way in practicing for the R. S. R. O. A, Profiency Dance test which will be this Saturday. They have been practicing for several months and have been having special practices for the last month. They will have two tests Satur day. The first will be the Bron7.e Bar Test and the second will be the Bronze Metal Test. {The Bronze Metal is for more advanced skaters who have already passed the Bronze Bar.') The Bronze Bar consists of three dances and the Bronze Metal con sists of six. There are some students from Senior High in the test. They are as follows: Don .Johnson, Bobbie Anne Clarke, Norma Jean Sparks, Moddie Pugh and Jack Carter. There are former students, and the Pro L. H. Catter is also a, former student. The judges for the test are Nola Rinchic, Robert Seigfried, and Ho mer McMahon, who all are from Washington, D. C. NoTa Rinchic has the Bronze Bar, Bronze Medal. Silver Medal, and Gold Medal with the Gold Medal be ing the highest one possible to get. Robert Seigfried and Homer Mc Mahon have the Bronze Bar, Bronze Medal, and Silver Medal. All of them have placed in the National and American championships. Saturday night after the /test, Nola and Robert will do some pair skating in an exhibition and Homer will do a Free Style.
