Perimeter of Campus Tops Plans For School Beautiful Lari Powell and Tim Weikel, co-chairman of this year’s school beautiful project, are now planning the activities for all of the groups participating in this program. Projects for this year include planting grass in the area between Campus Drive and the parking lot and on the girls’ athletic field, landscaping along Campus Drive, and completely renovating the campus at the corner of Benjamin Parkway and Westover Terrace. School Beautiful, a division of Operation-You-All, the city wide beautification endeavor, runs from October 1 to May 1. The first part of this period, October 1 through December 31, encompass es the planning by all participat ing groups while the activation of these plans is from January 1 to April 30. Reports to the Youth Council on Civic ..Affairs ..Beautification Committee on the activities and plans of each month during the competition are part of the cri teria for the School Beautiful Trophy, Barbara Dale Black, chairman of the scrapbook committee, will supervise the written and pictorial accounts of the work days to be placed in this book. The originali ty and completeness of presenta tion in this record will comprise 20% of the total points used in determining the winner of the trophy. Student participation is another new area taken under considera tion in the awarding of the School Beautiful Trophy. Forty per ceni of the total score comes from this category. To help in interest ing more students in working or school beautiful, class work days instead of the previous service club work days will be held. In order for the total effective ness of the program to be check ed. a panel of three judges provid ed by the Greensboro Jaycees will make periodic tours of inspection to all of the schools participating in this project. Eilstrom Runs For Secretary Of Student Council Congress From November first through the third, three members of Grimsley’s student council will be participating in the North Carolina Student Council Congress at East Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte. They are Dave Grimes, Judy Eilstrom, and Bret English. These delegates will be taking part in several activities at this convention. Judy, who is Pres ident of Grimsley’s Junior class, will be running for secretary of the state convention. Dave Grimes is Judy’s campaign manager. In addition to helping Judy, Dave will be leading a group discussion on public relations. Bret English is campaign manager for Brenda Allen of Rocky Mount High School, a candi date for president of the Congress. Officer’s Workshop Held Here At GHS Grimsley Senior High School was the site for the seventh an nual Officer’s Training Workshop. The purpose of this workshop was to bring abO'Ut a better under standing of the various duties of the officers in the Distributive Education, Diversified Occupatioss, Cooperative Office Program, In dustrial Training, and Vocational Industrial clubs. The schools in district six which were represented by their officers and coordinators are Southern Alamance, Eastern Alamance, Wai ter-Williams, Burlington, Page, Smith, Ragsdale, Northeast, North west. Southeast and Grimsley. The Grimsley student body was represented by Dave Grimes, pres ident of the student body, Sarah Pearce, youth recreation chairman, Curtis Weaver, sophomore class president; Judy Elstrom, junior class president; Margie Israel, Student body secretary, Bret Eng lish, student body vice-president; and Mrs. Mary Alice Moody, their advisor Larry Wrenn, Senior president for the D.E. club welcomed the guests and introduced the speak er, Mrs. Virginia Heard who spoke on the “Effectiveness of Good Leadership.” Parliamentary Pro cedure in Action was the film shown by Mr. Louie Bonard, D.E. coordinator from Smith High School. After the film the various officers divided in their different groups to discuss the duties per taining to their office. Monday morning, Grimsley’s representatives will begin attend ing a series of workshops and dis cussions on subjects such a stimu lating interest in student council proects, public relations, and re sponsibility of American high schools. Delegates will, also, dis cuss problems that their own stu dent council may have had and offer various solutions for these problems. Ideas for creating new projects and developing a more efficient student government will be ex changed On Tuesday the delegates to the convention will choose who thglr officers for next year will be. Reports on the previous day’s discussion will be given while the ballots are counted. The new offi cers will then be installed and the Thirty-Eighth N. C. Student Coun cil Congress will come to a close. Greensboro had had several of ficers, local and national, repre- seting our city in the past. Last year our student body president Jim Byrd was elected chairman of the district student council con vention. Linda Filipski became- secretary of the state convention’ in 1962 and travelled to the Na-' tional Convention in Maine. Bill O’Brien was president of the Na tional Student Council Congress.
