GOLER TO HOST FIRST EVER
CHIRCH PRISON CONFERENCE
WHAT IN THE WORLD IS
GOING ON?
By John Raye
Men and women go to prison. Men
and women serve their time and leave
prison. Then, for many reasons, known
and unknown, they go back. Again.
And again. And again.
Today, there are more Black men
in prison than enrolled in college as the
Black prison population has exploded
from 143,000 in 1980 to over 1.1 million
today.
And black women are among the
fastest growing segment of the prison pop
ulation.
But now, Winston-Salem’s Goler
Memorial A.M.E. Zion, Goler Institute and
other churches have embarked upon a first
ever, church-prison conference designed
to halt the high rate of incarceration and
recidivism with an ambitious two-day program. May 22-23 at Goler Education and
Enrichment Center, 620 North Patterson Avenue.
The event is part of a national, emerging trend to find ways to halt the explod
ing prison population and to assist ex-offenders in finding meaningful employment
once they re-enter society.
It’s believed to be the first time such a unique church-prison conference has
been held in the Winston-Salem area, according to Rodney Sumler, one of the primary
organizers of the conference.
The two-day event will bring together prison officials, probation officers, counselors.

Everything around us is proclaiming the
Clarion Call for change. It is imperative
that we acknowledge the signs of the time.
The political arena is dictating “CHANGE”,
our financial arena is mandating CHANGE!,
our environmental sphere is shifting and
changing in weather patterns.
Think it not strange that there is indeed

WAGING WAR AGAINST
THE CREDIT CRISIS

Raise your hand if you
don’t quite understand the
financial crisis that every
one has been referencing
for months.
While all Americans
have been affected in
some way, shape, form or
fashion by this on going
problem, most people
really do not understand
exactly what is going on.
The part about the U.S.
housing crash seems sim
ple enough; with banks offering up encouragement and people
buying homes they cannot afford and now falling behind on
their mortgages, it all boils down to two simple things - misin
formation and miseducation.
So what exactly does that mean? There are a lot of mis
conceptions, even outright lies, regarding credit, especially in
terms of what determines good credit and bad credit.

a spiritual shift in the dimension of the
Kingdom of Almighty God. We must
become as sensitive as the Sons of
Issacher who not only had an understand
ing of the time but also knew what God was
mandating for his people at the appointed
time.
Even so, we must move in Cadence with
God, just as God’s people moved with the
cloud while journeying in the wilderness. I
have been privileged for over 25 years to
witness the hand of God in the nations of
the earth.
All eyes are upon the west right now, not
only because of the upcoming elections, but
also because we set the pace globally.
We, the Body of Christ, are the people
who are expected to raise the standard. At
Global Leadership Training Center
(G.L.T.C.), we are equipping the Saint’s for
globalization. The major fortune five hun
