Page 6 QUEENS BLUES December 15, 1938 Kappa Delta Here and there—We are all mighty glad to hear that Hatch is doing so much better now and were so glad to see her mother and father here in Charlotte . . . Nancy Walker has been home in Burlington for a few days recujierating from that appen dicitis operation and Hilda McManus is still in the hospital in Monroe . . . Georgie and Ann and Frannic are still talking about some good looking boy they saw Sunday a week ago . . . Ann is working at Ivey’s now along with Betsy . . . Betty Purser is at Belk’s selling socks . . . Our mothers and fathers came to the feed Sunday night and were given a regular Christmas feed by four of the girls . . . Our annual Christmas party was given at the house Tues day night when all of the alums came down . . . Everyone brought gifts to the house and pledges of the chapter gave Ann a KD ring . . . Actives gave Hatch a jeweled guard for her pin . . . Becky and Martha Alexander were sponsors for those Davidson dances last week-end . . . We were all thrilled with the news of Jane Wiley’s engagement . . . Lib Taylor played the part of doctor when Olivia sprained her finger and fixed it up in good order . . . Becky was mighty smart to make that dress she wore when she was up for May court . . . Frannie sounded mighty good in the Christmas carol program Sunday . . . Gigl tells me Bull will be in tins part of tbe country during the holidays . . . Some of the girls have already started talking about the Pawley’s houseparty in June . . . Alpha Gamma Delta BU'r NOW the uppermost event, or series of events, is Christmas va cation, Every one has ye olde Christ mas spirit for fair—and why shouldn’t we, when we’re practically there? The entire chapter is going home for the holidays, many of us for the first time this year. Besides going home, Annie Carr is going to her Grandmother’s for the day. During the holidays. Hazel Adams is going to Mullins, S. C., to be in Vivianne Bane’s wedding. There will be many more Alpha Gams there, of course. There are other things besides the holidays. Annie Laurie’s mother and father came on Thursday after noon. Elaine is going home this week end and to Columbia Sunday to stay until Tuesday. Cornelia is going home, taking Al berta and Norma with her. Jo Mc Donald and Hattie are coming for the week-end. Our sponsor. Miss Wharton, is going to Kosciusko to visit with her former pupil, Mrs. Arthur Doty, and her two pupils Vicky and Eleanor, during the holi days. Marjorie Bl'ease entertained for Hattie Truesdale last Saturday night. It was a grand party and every one had an hilarious time. Libba Harms entertained at luncb- eon Saturday afternoon for Vivianne, following a lovely i)arty in Albemarle given by Becky for the bride-elect. Betty Hunter, alumna, entertained Saturday night for Hattie and Vivi anne. So, that’s all until next time, after Christmas. Just in case you haven’t, she has been chosen the Dream Girl of Pi Kappa Alpha at Davidson. She at tended; the dances last week-end with “him.” Mitty and Betty attended the North Carolina and South Carolina game and had a marvelous time. Lib Sommerville has been holding out on us. She also attended the Da vidson dances. Have y'ou seen Nelson? He is a regular Saturday night visitor as well as during the week. But don’t ask Flowe about Christmas because he will be far away. A certain young man named Henry is causing a lot of comment. Ask Ruth McFarland for the details. Did you know that Caroline Edwards is wearing a frat pin again? Must be the real thing. Julia and the young man from Chap el Hill are still that way about each other. Betty Kale is the kind of girl who rates not only a letter every day but a Special quite often too. Have you seen Nappy’s picture in the State annual? Mimmi and Charlie seem to be doing all right according to the mail man. And speak ing of mail, Lucy Harmon is an other lucky girl who gets a letter every day. We have heard rumors of a fine skating party, and a young lady whose name is Annette was having the best time of all. Not forgetting Chapel Hill, are you? Mary Vir ginia’s prayer has been answered and she has found a new' sweet heart. Queer name, though. Alene w'as Margaret Erwin’s guest last Sunday. There were quite a few guests at the feed on Sunday night. We had our Christmas tree and everyone was in a jolly mood. Christmas carols, Phi Mu songs, and college songs were sung with a great deal of en thusiasm. Our annual Christmas party was held Monday night and it was a big success. Presents were exchanged among the actives and pledges and carols and other songs sung during the course of the evening. Tuesday night the alums, actives and pledges gathered at the home of Mrs. Arnold Small, Martha Ware Pitts to us, for a Yuletide party, which also served as a part of our Social Service Program for the year. Gifts and clothes were collected at that time to be given to a needy family, and plans were made to give them a festive Christmas. Later games were played, carols sung, and refreshments served. Martha Crosland Stevens, an alum, was recently a campus vis itor. Frances Stough spent w'eek-end before last at ber home in Cornelius where she celebrated her birthday. Peggy Williams spent last week end at Washington and Lee Univer sity. Nancy Hovis recently went to Nashville to attend the Vanderbilt dances. Sara Kelly Lillard and Vir ginia Hickman were guests recently at an SPE party in Davidson. Seen on the SAE hay-ride at Davidson were Mary Marshall Jones and Dot Myers. Dot Brannon and Helen Cum nock attended the Pi Kappa Phi party the same week-end. Among those who took in the Davidson dances last week-end were Ann Mauldin, Nancy Hovis, Dell Sutherland, Dot Brannon, Maujer Moseley, Gentry Burks, Helen Cum nock, Virginia Hickman, and Pan Peyton. Over the past week-ends there has been a collection of news, so take heed: Nancy and Doris Raley took France and Margie Poole to Ruby for a fine time recently. Ileita liad Scotty and Sue McNulty as her guests in Concord—and several fun ny things happened w'hen Ileita’s house caught fire! Mary Gunn saw' several interesting “subjects” in Sanford and Boots Bow'en says visit in Mt. Gilead if you crave fun, though Martha Bald win just can’t see it that w'ay. An nette Bruton made a quick run to her home and Hilda still likes to make frequent trips to McBee. Sybil Trexler sponsored for a danc6 in Sali.sbury and talked about flow'- ers for days. Little Ebrhardt W'ent on tbe Pi Kaps hay-ride recently and spent the rest of the w'eek-end with Charlotte Me Aden. Laura Fleming looked very lovely and very business-like when she visited the liouse last Sunday night. Mary Grif fin's new sister-in-law w'as also a visitor. Sara DuRant w'ill see Newton, low'a for Christmas, if all goes w'ell, and ask her when and with w'hom will she see the Rose Bowl game. Anyone wishing to send Little Ehrhardt a Christmas card has her permission to send it care New' York City ... a little vague, did you say? Our Virginia girls are up in the air about the holidays, and w'ho can blame them? At least they are as sured a white Christmas! And Boots Bowen will be leaving that fair state for Florida to see her brother sometime during the holidays.
